When it comes to things to see and do, you will not be short of options on a Costa Dorada holiday. Extending from Barcelona to Tarragona in Catalonia, there are countless miles of clean, sandy beaches to enjoy and explore as well as the marvellous Port Adventura theme park, a considerable draw for holidaymakers with children. Take a look at some of the biggest Costa Dorado attractions and see what you could be getting up to on a Beat the Brochure holiday here.

Beaches and Sunshine

  • Its reputation a beach lover’s paradise is well deserved. Beautiful sand, hidden coves, warm blue sea, it really does have it all

  • Salou has the most popular beaches in the region, with many backing onto scenic mountains and with pine trees adding to the relaxed vibe. If you want to get up and be a bit active, try one of the water sports available here too

  • If you are on the lookout for child-friendly beaches, your best bet is to head to Cambrils or La Pineda. The waters here are shallower than elsewhere and the beaches less crowded

Local Culture

  • The heavyweight city of Barcelona sits within easy reach of most Costa Dorada all inclusive resorts. Explore the local history, architecture and the must see Las Ramblas

  • The food in this part of the world is to die for. Make sure you experience some of the finest Catalan cooking. The best examples can be found in Barcelona

  • Explore Tarragona and in particular the main street, La Rambla Nova. If shopping for local designs and crafts is your thing, this is the place to do it. Every Wednesday, Cambrils hosts a market which is well worth a visit

Night time Activities

  • At night is when the Costa Dorada really shows its true colours. The liveliest action can be found in Salou. Expect to see neon lights, packed bars and entertainment of all kinds well into the small hours

  • La Pineda holds its own on the bar front too. There is even a well-known club on the edge of town which draws people in from far and wide

  • Tarragona is a bit more ‘Spanish’, so if you want to rub shoulders with the locals then this is the place for you

Hints & Tips

  • Visit during February if you want to get away from the cold British winter. This is fiesta season in Spain so you will be able to experience a real Spanish celebration

  • Include a trip to Barcelona on any holiday to Costa Dorada, it can be reached within a few hours of most resorts so can be treated as a day trip if you would rather get back to your hotel pool or local beach

  • Being so close to the coast, you will find that there are plenty of first class fish restaurants to sample. Make sure you seek at least one out on your holiday here
