Tips

Sure there are plenty of beaches, but they only make up a small part of what the largest Canary Island has to offer. There is a reason why Tenerife is so popular with families – there are so many family friendly days and nights out here that it is not difficult to keep the little ones entertained, which as any parent who has been on holiday with children knows is an attraction in itself.

From man-made water parks to natural beauty, Tenerife’s attractions come in all shapes and sizes. See what we recommend below or if you are feeling a bit adventurous then wait until you get there before exploring the local area.

Experience the Best of Nature

  • The UNESCO designated World Heritage Site at Mount Teide is a must see. Standing at over 12,000 feet, El Teide is the highest point in the whole of Spain. You can walk to the summit or take a cable car, and when you reach the top you can eat in a restaurant which cooks its food using heat which comes up through the volcano

  • The beaches, in particularly those in the south, are full of sand which has been imported from Africa, and the result are beaches which have to be seen to be believed. As for standouts, El Medano usually and understandably takes most of the plaudits

  • The island has many micro climates, with temperatures and wildlife differing in different parts of the island. Explore forests one day and the coastal paths the next. Try and have a day at the botanical gardens at Puerto de la Cruz too

Family Friendly Resorts

  •  Playa de las Americas is the most popular resort with bars and beaches aplenty. Explore a little bit further and you’ll also uncover themed pubs, casinos and water parks perfect for the whole family

  • For a resort with plenty going on but with a slightly more relaxed vibe, Los Cristianos will be an ideal fit. Here you will find small welcoming restaurants, friendly local bars and a Sunday market for you all bargain hunters out there.

  • If you are a beach lover at heart then a trip to Costa Adeje will fill you with joy. White sand and water sports is what this resort is famed for so book an all inclusive stay and have the time of your life

Water Sport Heaven

  • Missing out on the water sport opportunities in Tenerife would be a sin. Start with a spot of windsurfing on the volcanic beach at Costa Adeje. How many of your friends will have done this on a black sand beach?

  • If you have always wanted to try scuba diving, then a holiday to Tenerife is your best opportunity. There are over 50 dive sites littered around the coast so once you earn your stripes you will have so much choice waiting for you beneath the waves.

  • For a bit of a thrill, hire a jet ski and zip across the waves. These are available to hire from most beaches including Playa de las Americas

Hints & Tips

  • Book a Tenerife holiday in February and you will get to experience the Santa Cruz Carnival, the second biggest carnival in the world. It is in-your-face but great fun nonetheless

  • The capital Santa Cruz is well worth a visit even out of carnival season. It has a very traditional feel and is the place to be if you want to sample the local tapas and wine

  • Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas are the resorts with most going on, so are good choices for families who want entertainment in both the night and daytime.
