Canary Islands Holiday Hot Spots

Tips

One thing you should know about the Canary Islands is that whatever you are looking for in a holiday, you will be able to find it on at least one of the seven islands. With year round sunshine, idyllic beaches and beautiful landscapes, the Canary Islands combine everything a tourist wants from a holiday whether it is beachside water sports or architecture in one of the many impressive cities and towns.

On some of the larger islands the resorts are located in areas close to the beach and within easy reach of local hotspots. On smaller islands transport links allow you travel to places of interest – or if you prefer, simply hide away on the local beach and recharge those batteries!

Hit the Beach

  • In Fuerteventura, head to the Corralejo dunes which offer amazing views of the surrounding islands as well as over 11km of sandy beachfront

  • Do something totally different when in Tenerife and take a trip to one of the famous black sand beaches. You will never have seen or experienced anything quite like it

  • Lanzarote’s Papagayo beaches are protected and consequently offer some of the best beach experiences in the whole of the Canaries. El Reducto beach, located in the island’s capital, Arrecife, is where you will find palm tree lined promenades which may tickle your fancy

Explore the Great Outdoors

  • Explore Timanfaya National Park in Lanzarote and you will be treated to scenes straight out of a film, such is the ‘alien’ nature of the landscape. You’ll have the opportunity to visit El Diablo restaurant which serves up food cooked using the geo-thermal heat emitting from the ground

  • Tenerife Zoo is not far from Los Cristianos. Known locally as Parque Las Aguilas, it’s a great jungle-like zoo, with lots of exciting animals from white tigers to pygmy hippos on show

  • Walk to the top of Mount Teide for stunning views. Or you could always take a cable car to the top – it is up to you

Kids Fun

  • Siam Park is Tenerife’s largest water park, and as the sun is guaranteed to be out on your visit, you’ll have no choice but to let the kids drag you along to try out all the rides

  • Love sea life? Lanazrote is the island to go to as the aquarium here will allow you the opportunity to swim with sharks…

  • If you want an attraction that literally has it all, then Baku Europark in Fuerteventura is the place to go. You’ll find everything from water slides to animal enclosures to wave machines. The perfect way to kill a day or escape the beaches

Hints & Tips

  • Whilst the larger islands are the most popular draw thanks to their many attractions, do not forget about the likes of La Gomera and La Palma. Day trips to these islands are readily available

  • The likes of Puerto del Carmen, Las Palmas and Corralejo have good nightlife, so if you like a bit of action after dark then there are plenty of options open to you, as there are if you prefer a bit of peace and quiet instead

  • If you want to visit a place unlike anywhere else on earth, Lanzarote should be your choice. The landscape is almost from another planet and a real adventurers playground
