Hotels in Madrid – Gateway to Andalucia

Madrid is ideally placed for adventures in Andalucia's fantastic cities Seville, Granada and Cordoba, stuffed with brilliant UNESCO World Heritage sites that reflect the region’s bloody and chequered history. Hotels in Madrid are plentiful, varied and widespread whether you’re in the city for business or pleasure. The Vincci Capitol Hotel sits in the commercial centre close to the ‘Triangle of Arts’ formed by the El Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen Bornemisza museums. As hotels in Madrid go, this one’s a beauty, a stunning listed building on the Gran Via. Refurbished and buffed to a high shine in 2007, they held onto the old exterior and modernised the inside to a wonderful standard.

Madrid Hotels – Madrid has flea markets too!

El Escorial monastery, just outside Madrid, is timeless, calm and chilled. The Valley of the Fallen monument is nearby, commemorating those who fought in the Spanish Civil War. Stuff like this gives you a peek into the Spanish way of life and hints at why Spain’s culture has such solemnity. But forget all that for a minute, let’s talk about hotels in Madrid. We like the Hotel Puerta de Toledo’s style; easy access to public transport, right in the middle of the ancient city centre, convenient for the Royal Palace, Cathedral, Royal Opera and an excellent rummage-fest at the El Rastro flea market.

Hotels in Madrid – Culture and clubbing

Book a tour of the city via one of the many clued-up hotels in Madrid and you could find yourself enjoying Spanish nightlife along with the locals. Step off the tourist trail and let a tour guide unfold the city’s best kept food and drink secrets. You can even book a Madrid Tapas Night Walking Tour. Sounds like a laugh. If you want big, luxurious hotels in Madrid you won’t go far wrong with the Hotel Preciados, a four star show-off in the centre of town. Built in 1881 on land once owned by the Count of Romanones, it now offers a quirky but delicious combination of old and new. Think Michaelangelo’s David carrying an iPod and you’ve got the idea.

Holidays to Madrid -  A Fantastic Modern City

The capital of Spain. Big, classy, exciting, & robust with a spellbinding grandeur.... It is easy to use the metro, especially from Madrid’s centre.

Madrid is the centre of Spain’s government and commerce. It is a changed place compared to the poverty it endured in the past. In the 1940s and ‘50s, when Franco was dictator, Madrid people lived in fear and poverty for forty years. After Franco died in the mid seventies, the city burst back to life with parties, clubbing, and extraordinary achievements, in art, design, film & architecture.

Madrid city breaks has an atmosphere is steeped in ancient Spanish history. Be caught up by its excitement. Explore. Walk down old streets; Visit some of the best museums and art galleries in the world. Chill in the plazas. Shop. Feel the pulse beneath your feet; It blows you away. Happen upon many restaurants. Eating can be cheap. Have breakfast in a little bar early in the morning at about 8a.m. with a pastry, then another breakfast at about 11.a.m with ham and cheese and bread. It is traditional in Spain to have two breakfasts far apart. Holidays to Madrid have a beauty and exhilaration which makes it feel like a capital with a capital C.

Flights to MadridSpain’s capital city

Madrid was made the Spain’s capital in the 1600s, named after the Arab word magerit, ‘the place of many streams’. These days it is a big, thriving city with a population of 3 million or more. Flights to Madrid deposit you 190 milers or so from the sea on a high plateau 650 metres above sea level. This makes it the highest altitude capital city in Europe. Because of its unique geographical position Madrid is a sun-lover’s paradise, with more sunny days every year than almost any other city in the EU. Madrid has two railway stations, Chamartín in the north and Atocha in the south of the city. Both give you easy access to Madrid Airport, AKA Barajas Airport

Madrid Flights – 190 miles from the sea

The Spanish love their football and Madrid is home to Real Madrid, a superteam if there ever was one. Take flights to Madrid and visit the 20th century’s most successful football club. Or stuff the football and go and visit Madrid’s fine art galleries; three beauties joined together in what they call the Golden Triangle. There’s the Prado, home to 4000+ works of art. The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, packed with masterpieces by Renoir and Van Eyck. And the marvellous Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, where you can see Picasso’s infamous anti-war painting, Guernica. Cultural overdrive or what?

Flights to Madrid – Fly into Barajas Airport

Madrid Barajas Airport is Spain's busiest, taking care of over 40 million people a year. Wow, that’s a lot of people. They offer literally hundreds of internal Spanish, European and worldwide holiday and business destinations so flights to Madrid are pretty darned popular. Madrid Barajas International airport is only 8 miles from the city centre and the roads are great, recently modernised and brought up to scratch. You can catch the Metro from all four terminals and there are always plenty of taxis on tap outside. It only takes half an hour or so to drive.

Madrid Attractions

Hang around 15 and 16 century streets on the Plaza Mayor. Shop in the Plaza de Santa Ana. BeatTheBrochure says all the museums are brilliant. One is more so which is the Museo Nacioanal del Prado.  It is famous for Goya’s extraordinary 19century  paintings and etchings. The way he painted made people see the world around them in a new light.  Some etchings and paintings are about war as he saw it. His witty one liners underneath his comic and violent etchings, express his hatred of corrupxion and authority during the French invasion of Spain, and the Age Of Enlightenment. To walk into the room of Black Paintings is to feel as if you have been struck by a thunder bolt.

Take a peek at The Palacio Real;  King Juan Carlos 1’s official residence; the place for important events.  Eat tapas in the Parque del Buen Retiro.
