Hotel description
Opened in the year 2000 and renovated in 2004, this first-class hotel comprises a total of 132 double rooms and 5 suites spread over 6 floors. The building's spectacular innards were designed by Philippe Stark and have a fantastical, surrealistic style that creates a unique atmosphere. There is an elegant foyer with a 24-hour reception desk, safes, a currency exchange facility, a cloakroom and lifts. Amongst the top facilities that are also sophisticated in their style count a café, shops, 2 bars, a gourmet restaurant (non-smoking area, air conditioning), conference rooms and a public Internet terminal. There are also room and laundry services as well as a car park and a garage on offer.
Location
This hotel is located just off Oxford Street in the heart of the West End.
Rooms
The bedrooms are all medium in size. They are decorated in white with white walls, duvet covers and curtains. On each bed is a hand made pashmina for sale. The bathrooms are shower only (most of the deluxe and superior rooms have bath tubs). The partition wall between the bathroom and bedroom is glass. The bathrooms consist of a glass sink, glass shelves and a glass wardrobe with a white curtain. The rooms have television, mini bar and hair dryers.
Restaurant
The hotel has a restaurant serving a variety of international dishes. There is also a very long bar, which is open to the public and another bar, which is open to residents only. This bar is completely purple along with the chairs that are purple which are very small - designed to represent a set from 'Alice in Wonderland'.
Exterior
It is a large modern building dating from the 1960s with very large windows.
Lobby
The lobby is a large open plan area. The hotel has been designed by Phillipe Stark, a famous designer. The flooring is pale wood and the walls and windows are covered in white voile curtains. On entering there is a large red sofa, in the shape of a pair of lips, designed by Salvador Dali. The furniture is very abstract - mostly wooden carved chairs imported from Africa. There are also several gold chairs in the shape of swans.
