Flights to Dublin – Fly straight into the delights of Eire
Dublin is the capital city of Eire, the Republic of Ireland. Flights to Dublin arrive at the city’s international airport from all over the UK to visit the city, a lively vibrant place. Exploring the delights of gorgeous inland Eire and the magical South West coastline is popular. Dublin is a big place but not that big compared to many capital cities, covering 115 square km of land clustered around the estuary of the River Liffey. If you’ve drunk Guinness in Ireland, you’ve probably drunk Liffey water. That’s what it’s made of. Brown, acid and full of peat; lovely stuff. To the south Dublin comes to a halt at the foot of a range of small and very pretty mountains and flights to Dublin also give easy access to the rest of Eire. We’re a bit puzzled by Dublin’s twinning policy; the city’s twinned with Barcelona, Liverpool and San Jose in California. If you can see the connection, let us know. Answers on a postcard.
Dublin Flights – Dublin Port Tunnel
We love Dublin Port Tunnel, the biggest civil engineering project in Ireland… ever. How’s this for a monster? More than 5000 people have worked on the project, investing over 7.5 million man hours to build the longest urban road tunnel in the EU. Book flights to Dublin and take a quick detour to explore this feat of ingenuity and engineering. Two million tonnes of rock and clay shifted bit by bit to create a massive great hole seven storeys below the ground, hacked heroically out of limestone. Hats off to them. We get exhausted just digging the garden.
Flights to Dublin – Big, shiny and efficient
Dublin Airport is big, shiny and efficient with all the facilities you’d expect from a major international hub. Unsurprisingly it is Eire’s busiest airport as well as being in the top ten busiest EU airports. Flights to Dublin are a pleasure – the people really are very friendly there. Imagine being nice to around 60,000 passengers on a normal day, twenty thousand a day more during the peak season. Phew. They handle over 600 planes a day spread over 85 or so airlines, 24/7, 364 (they’re only closed on Christmas Day!) and more than 23 million passengers a year.
