Dublin is set in the greenest countryside you can imagine. Everyone witters on about how green it is in Eire and they’re right. Cliches often contain a sizeable element of truth and it really is incredibly green there; gorgeous. Another cliché, the locals are startlingly friendly and many of them will cheerfully talk the hind leg off the proverbial donkey. We should know. Dublin, to people who like buildings, is a Regency gem. Just off the main streets you’ll find hotels galore. Many hotels in Dublin are tall, thin, beautifully proportioned regency terraced houses and mansions. Head out into the ‘burbs in any direction and you’ll run into streets’ worth of cosy, friendly B&Bs and Guest Houses, all very good value for your Euro. The 3 star Harcourt Hotel is a visual treat, an elegant Georgian townhouse close by St. Stephens Green, Grafton Street and Temple Bar. Like many of the larger hotels in Dublin the Harcourt has a bar, a heated beer garden (we understand the garden is heated, not the beer!) and its own restaurant, Little Caesars.

Rathmines is great fun and has its share of hotels. In Dublin centre, life is cosmopolitan, fast, vibrant and full-on. In Rathmines you’ll find it quirky, individual, artistic, poetic and occasionally down at heel. Herds of students live there and it stays awake late, full of personality and verve.
