Hotels in Nashville – Visit feed mills and art galleries

Hotels in Nashville give holidaymakers access to a raft of local festivals and entertainment. Plus there’s great parkland, wild stuff, swimming and camping not far from the city. The quaint Nolensville Feed Mill is one of the oldest businesses in the area at 100 years old.

Whenever you’re thinking about the US you have to bear in mind that history there is much more recent than in Europe. 100 years? Pah! Family favourites are often the best bet when choosing hotels in Nashville, like anywhere else. Reliable Best Western have a hotel at Music Row, a mile from the city centre and convenient for the Hard Rock Café and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Nashville Hotels – See stars of both kinds

Tennessee has always been superb star gazing country, with very low light pollution and wonderfully clear skies. Plus the weather’s great! If you’ve never seen a real shooting star you’ll be blasé about them by the time you leave! Choose hotels in Nashville if you’re a keen star fan and head out to the region’s many local observatories and telescope-friendly parks.

They’re almost all free. Airport based hotels in Nashville? The Airport Drake Inn is half way between the airport and downtown Nashville, not far from Music Row. If you’re movie star struck, Sandra Bullock stayed here in some film or other. Good for her.

Hotels in Nashville – Christmas lights on a planetary scale

Blackpool illuminations have nothing on Nashville. More than three million lights blaze around McGregor Park as part of the city’s annual Festival of Lights. The River Walk is lit up like a Christmas tree and many of the hotels in Nashville join in too, with spectacular effect.

Whatever time of year you visit the Quality Inn is always a safe bet. The Quality Inn and Suites is a good basic Nashville hotel and like many hotels in Nashville this one gives you a base near all the attractions; take in the Gaylord Entertainment Centre, Opryland and the massive State Fairgrounds.

Nashville Holidays -  Plenty of Attractions

It’s Tennessee's capital. The 'Grand Ole Opry' has been broadcasting a radio show since 1925 and many stars of country music have been launched. From Dolly Parton to Taylor Swift Nashville will always be the home of country music. Hit a bar, grab a 'brewsky' and enjoy the ultimate country musical experience.

Opryland is the resort that includes the Grand Ole Opry. There are shows every day, and just round the corner is the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. You’re also handy for The District, which is full of nightclubs, bars and restaurants where country music rules the roost. Don’t get Nashville confused with New Orleans, the other famous music town in the Deep South, where blues dominates proceedings.

Flights to Nashville – Home of Country music

Nashville was originally called Fort Nashborough back in 1779. Today it’s a big, vibrant place. Flights to Nashville deposit you in the state capita of Tennessee, the birthplace of the first ever FM radio station and the place where country music originated. We’re not entirely sure that’s something to show off about. But the Country Music Hall of Fame is quite something; a vast modern building that covers a whole block.

Choose flights to Nashville and you’ll fly into Nashville International Airport. A friendly place that sponsors local arts, crafts and music by holding exhibitions and live music in the airport itself. Pick up some live music action outside the Ernest Tubb Shop, the checkpoint in the bar lounge and on the stage at baggage claim… no escape there, then!

Nashville Flights – The capital of Tennessee

Flights to Nashville take you to the second biggest city in Tennessee. It’s a green place with 100 parks and, if you’re there for a break, you can see seven different US states from the top of Lookout Mountain out by Chattanooga.

Oddly, the first ever American guide dog for the blind lived in Nashville with her owner. She was trained in Switzerland then shipped over. We assume she was trained in English rather than German or French. Choose flights to Nashville if you’re into Opry. Not Opera. Opry. The Grand Ole Opry is the longest running live radio show in the world, on the go since 1925.

Flights to Nashville – Visit Opryland

Like a lot of US cities – and UK ones we suppose – there are smart bits and tatty bits. Away from the tourist hot spots you’ll find the usual dingy malls and strips lined with desperate looking businesses. Nashville International Airport is 8 miles south east of town, well signposted. One of the best things about flights to Nashville is the airport’s helpful Flying Aces, red jacketed volunteers who are there specifically to help with travel-related questions.

Cool idea. A bit like Butlins Redcoats but without the constant need to break into spontaneous song. If you’re stressed on the way on or out, there’s even a meditation room on tap. Some people book flights to Nashville purely to visit Opryland. If that’s you, it is only 9 miles from the terminal. Just hit the Interstate West and you can’t miss it.

Belle Meade Plantation -  Nashville Attractions

Known as one of America’s greatest mansions, this is typical of Tennessee plantations and there’s a balance of pride and regret in its restoration. The imposing 1853 Greek Revival mansion and gabled Carriage House has been restored to its former glory, with tours and guides in period dress. The 1832 slave cabin that pre-dates the mansion still stands on the property and serves as a stark reminder of past sacrifices made.

Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum -  Attractions in Nashville

It’s the world’s largest music museum, dedicated to providing ‘the ultimate country music experience.’ Country music’s past is contained within this vast time capsule, and there’s some Elvis thrown in (a gold plated piano, among other things) just in case you missed Graceland! You’re rather amusingly not allowed to take your camera – a most unusual stipulation for a tourist attraction! This place is NOT for those who don’t love country music. Don’t like country music? Perish the thought. Oh yes, don’t miss the historic Studio B, where music legends such as Willie Nelson, the Everly Brothers, Presley, and Reeves recorded. That’s Jim Reeves, not Vic.

Grand Ole Opry House -  Nashville Attractions

It’s not the venue the name refers to, it’s the name of America's longest continuously running radio show. It’s been broadcasting since 1925 from various places. The performance now comes from the world's largest radio studio (almost EVERYTHING in Atlanta ‘the world’s largest!) which seats 4,424. Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton performed here. The Opry is to country music what the Apollo Theatre is for rhythm & blues.

General Jackson Showboat -  Attractions in Nashville

The 300 foot General Jackson Showboat is typical of paddlewheel riverboats that cruised the Southern waterways in the 1800s. The General Jackson was named after the first steamboat to operate on the Cumberland River in 1817. Spend an evening dining and dancing under the stars, or have a lazy afternoon cruise under the clear Southern sky. Either way you’ll capxure the essence of a bygone era.

The flight will probably involve picking up a connection and take around 11 hours. A typical flight might land in the US at Chicago, from where your connecting flight will take about one and a half hours.
