Atlanta was originally called Marthasville. We’re glad it changed its name to something less homespun because Atlanta is a wonderful, big, shiny name that fits this wonderful, big, shiny city. While Atlanta’s climate is generally mild it can get nasty and a bit grim in the winter, occasionally falling below zero. The best time to visit is during spring, summer and autumn. And it is. Their capitol building – a bit like a town hall, but with balls – is generously covered with forty three ounces of twenty three carat gold leaf.

Atlanta airport, like many of the US’s biggest, is hell bent on expansion so their offering is due to get bigger. Blimey. It’s about the size of Yorkshire as it is. Anyway, they’re spending a cool six billion dollars – about three and a half billion pounds in real money – to make your flights to Atlanta an unforgettable experience. But you’re not there to visit the airport… almost 17 million people visit Atlanta city itself each year. They probably all come to pay respects to the State Fish, the Largemouth Bass. Does Sussex have a ‘county fish’? No. I nominate the blenny. Just because it has a silly name.
