Hotels in Washington – Tour the city by bison…?

Blimey, they’re efficient in Washington DC. They’ve arranged at least thirty different guided tours by all means of transport known to man. Walking, cycling, buses, trams… bison? probably.  Hotels in Washington deposit you in a city that’s jam packed with stuff to do and see. A great way to get your bearings is to grab a day ticket on the Hop on Hop off Trolley bus. Pick it up at one of 19 bus stops – one runs every half hour. Hotels in Washington?

This is the capital of the USA and they’ve built enough hotels to cater for a constant stream of countless thousands of visitors 24/7, 365. The Capitol Hill Suites is four miles or so from Reagan National Airport and within a mile of the malls, museums and monuments, the Library of Congress, Supreme Court, and Capitol Building. Enjoy a massive free continental breakfast, lobby Wi-Fi access and a traditional-style library to nod off in over a good book.

Washington Hotels – Wave at Barrack Obama

The wild countryside of Maryland and Pennsylvania isn’t far off and all the hotels in Washington will be able to help and advise you about getting there and back. They’re hot on Civil War stuff here and you can book a trip to see the battlefield of Gettysburg, the biggest and bloodiest ever fought on US soil. A handful of hotels in Washington come with familiar names. The reassuringly familiar Best Western Capitol Skyline hotel is within spitting distance of the Capitol and offers a free shuttle bus to the sights downtown.

Hotels in Washington – Take a bike

This is a cool place to explore on wheels. See Washington with the wind in your ears; hire a bicycle and cycle off down the banks of the lovely Potomac River or follow the city’s excellent and numerous bike trails. If you’re searching for luxury hotels in Washington, try the Grand Hyatt Washington, a contemporary 12 storey hotel with a gorgeous atrium right by the Convention Centre, the White House and the Capitol in Penn Quarter.

Exhaust yourself without leaving your Washington hotel… this one has a fit club, sauna, steam rooms, health centre, pool, circuit training, loads of threatening-looking cardiovascular machines, massive weights… enough  exercise opportunities to last you a lifetime, never mind a holiday.

Here are just some of the hotels and resorts we sell in Washington

Cheap Washington holidays  -  Home of the White House

Built on a swamp, Washington holidays offer a chance to experience the capital of the U.S.A on your USA city break. The White House on Capitol Hill is the seat of government where the President lives when he is elected.

Washington is half way between north and south America. Years ago it could be reached by the sea and the Potomac River. After the Civil War many black people settled there to escape racism in the South. After World War 2 Washington boomed as segregation between blacks and whites was made illegal.

Cheap Washington Holidays - Head Downtown

Spending in many downtown areas recently has resulted in wasted areas being filled with restaurants, galleries, boutiques and a huge increase in  property prices. The street grid is separated into four quadrants. Wide avenues run across a grid of streets, meeting up at monumental traffic circles like Dupont Circle. The neoclassical buildings of the Federal Buildings house the bureaucracy. There are many museums, galleries, a zoo, a cathedral, and eateries to suit all tastes.

Washington Holidays - Arts and Nightlife

The nightlife is ever more exciting. There are also numerous places which cover many aspects of the performing arts and areas of art nouveau architecture. The most sought after attractions are in different neighbourhoods. Most are near Connecticut Avenue where swankpots go for expensive wining and dining. So if you want to visit the most important political city in the world beatthebrochure offers cheap Washington holiday deals.

Flights to Washington – Washington State or DC?

Just to keep you on your toes, there are two Washingtons; Washington State and the US’s capital city Washington DC. For Washington DC take flights to Washington Dulles International Airport. For flights to Washington State head to Seattle where there are two international airports, alternatively Bellingham or Spokane.

Jimi Hendrix was born in Washington State, in Seattle. I never rated him much but then I’m a girl. I’m not really into great long tedious guitar solos and never responded very well to air guitar. But veteran crooner Bing Crosby was born in Tacoma - that’s more like it.

Washington Flights – Symbolic weirdness everywhere

Take flights to Washington state and you’ll find yourself surrounded by symbolic weirdness… Washington's state insect is the Dragonfly. And their state bird is the Willow Goldfinch. Fair enough so far. But then they go a bit mad. Their official dance is the square dance.

Their official fossil (!) is the Colombian Mammoth. Their official ship is the President Washington and they’ve even got an official tartan. All of which makes flights to Washington state an interesting if slightly bizarre holiday choice.

Flights to Washington – Home to Mount St Helens

Remember the big bang? Flights to Washington land you in the home of temperamental landmark Mount St. Helens, which blew over 1000 feet of its head off and scattered the dust all around the plant via the stratosphere. All in all, a cubic mile of rocks, dust, ash and rubbish. Wow. The blast flattened four billion feet’s worth of trees but not to worry, Mount St Helens isn’t due to go off again in the near future.

So your flights to Washington needn’t end in disaster. Unless you go to Wilbur, of course, where it is illegal to ride an ugly horse. Or to Spokane, where you’ll be thrown into jail of you so much as attempt to buy a TV on a Sunday.
