Hotels in Los Angeles – Wall to wall entertainment

Choose central hotels in Los Angeles and you’ll never have to go far to find entertainment. It is packed into a relatively small space compared to many US cities. Have fun at the area’s many amusement parks or explore the wonderful architecture. Visit an art gallery, a museum or head into the wild for a challenging hike. Or shop ‘til you drop. Sunset brings LA to life and you’ll find plenty of hotels in Los Angeles within easy reach of the vibrant nightlife.

The Tower Hotel is twelve stories of luxury in the expensive neighbourhood of Beverly Hills. Elegant and traditional, it sits right amongst some of the best shopping in the US spread over 10 shopping districts.  Hollywood types stay here as do other varieties of glitterati, for what it’s worth. We don’t give a stuff about celebrities but many people do…

Los Angeles Hotels – Where ‘historic’ means 1920s!

Los Angeles County is one of the biggest urban sprawls in the world covering more than 6000 square miles. Phew. So it’s no surprise that there are thousands of hotels in Los Angeles. The county is bounded by the Pacific and the desert lands on the east and it is stacked with arts, dance, music, theme parks, TV and film studios and all sorts of movie-related attractions, perfect for film geeks. Stay at one of the oldest Los Angeles hotels, the O Hotel, a lovely boutique hotel in downtown LA. A smashing place that the locals call a ‘historic building’, bless ‘em, even though it was built in the 1920s. No wonder they’re freaked out by Stratford on Avon. The O was redone in 2007 so it is immaculate, modern and fresh.

Hotels in Los Angeles – Adonis on roller skates

LA has more than twenty beaches so choose hotels in Los Angeles with easy beach access if sun and sand’s what you’re after. Gaze after the modern day Adonis on roller skates or eye up an unfeasibly well muscled lady on Muscle Beach. Once you’ve done enough people watching there’s fishing, surfing and all sorts of outdoor pursuits. Good hotels in Los Angeles give you easy access to everything California offers. The Bevonshire Lodge Motel is in the stylish Fairfax district, a short walk from CBS, where they filmed American Idol.

Flights to Los Angeles – El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora…blah… blah

Los Angeles’ real name is ‘El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de Los Angeles de Porciuncula’. What a mouthful. It’s just as bad in English, translating as ‘The Town of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels’. Blimey. Flights to Los Angeles deposit you in a very strange place. OK, in the UK we’re used to cars. Most of us drive and some of us have more than one car each. But this is ridiculous.

Apparently almost a quarter of Los Angeles’ land area is covered with cars. In fact there are more cars than people in this pedestrian-intolerant city. Take flights to Los Angeles and you’ll need a car, full stop. There’s no way to walk the vast distances the city covers. There aren’t any pavements most of the time anyway. These people’s bums are completely welded to their vehicles.

Los Angeles Flights – Nine terminals and 88 airlines

Los Angeles Airport, affectionately known as LAX, is one of the busiest airports in the world. LAX is 15 miles south west of the city, a modern efficient and utterly vast place. Compared to much of the US flights to Los Angeles give you the chance to dig around in some proper history. The first marauding Spanish arrived back in 1542 and settlers joined them some time later in 1769. The 1800s gold rush swelled the city with hungry, greedy prospectors and Los Angeles finally became a city in 1876. These days the city is absolutely huge with flights to Los Angeles airport involving 88 airlines landing at a remarkable nine terminals. Imagine Heathrow, triple it and you get the picture.

Flights to Los Angeles – Don’t walk, just drive

Choose flights to Los Angeles and experience the only city to host the Summer Olympics twice. The home to the biggest Armenian community outside Armenia. California’s biggest city and the second most highly populated in the US. Flights to Los Angeles LAX kicked off way back in 1946 when the international aviation industry was still in its infancy so it has a long and venerable history. Whichever of the airport’s nine terminals you end up in you’ll be bombarded with cafes, shops, restaurants, banks and cashpoint machines and anything else you can think of.
