Altinkum is a rapidly growing Aegean resort in the South West of Turkey. As well as the excellent beaches you’d expect on Turkey holidays, Althinkum offers a little bit of culture alongside the sand. As good a base as it is a place to stay, Altinkum is equidistant between the city of Izmir – Turkey’s third most populous city – and Bodrum, one of the most popular resorts for all inclusive Turkey holidays. Altinkum holidays also offer you the opportunity to visit Greece, namely the island of Kos which is just an hour’s boat ride away across the Aegean. Sun, sea and sand, Altinkum is a holiday offering exactly what you want from Turkey holidays.

The construction of the Temple of Apollo began in 300 BC and lasted for the best part of half a millennium! Once made up of 120 columns, the uncompleted building was still the third largest temple of the Ancient Greek world. Today visitors will see ruins of the once great temple that include a few of its giant columns, statue of Poseidon and the head of Medusa. Who says all inclusive Turkey holidays are all about drinking and sunbathing?!
The Aqua Park in adjoining Didim is great way for a family to spend a day away off the beach. The park has plenty of rides, slides and attractions to satisfy all members of your kin, while there are plenty of sunbeds if you just fancied topping up your tan in fresh scenery. The park’s most famous attraction is the wave machine, so if you’re having a casual swim make sure you get out of the pool before it begins!
The ancient city of Ephesus (Efes in Turkish) was one of the largest cities in the World during the Roman period, with a population of over 250,000. The Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was located in the town before being burnt down. The town was the home of the world’s first bank (don’t judge it upon this!) and despite being 5,000 years old is one of the most wonderfully preserved ancient cities on Earth. Just a short distance from Altinkum, Ephesus is well worth a visit on your Turkey holidays.
Altinkum means “golden sands” so it’s no surprise that the best beach on Altinkum is the one named for the resort. With soft golden sands and a sparkling crystal clear sea, all you need is glorious sunshine, something that Altinkum holidays offer in abundance. There are plenty of watersports and beachside activities available should you fancy some activity, but with the drinks cold and the Sun hot you’ll be forgiven for just kicking back and letting everything just float away.
Altinkum’s excellent location and relatively cheap prices mean that taking a boat trip is something that every holidaymaker should embark on. There’s no specific tour that’s better than others as it’s entirely down to your preference. You can sail down to the resort of Bodrum, get anchored off shore on a trip designed for kicking back and having a beer or visit the Greek island of Kos just across the Aegean. Holidays to Altinkum are great for the options available within the resort but, with such a good location, they’re even better for going exploring elsewhere.
