Hotels in OahuWaikiki and Honolulu

Hotels in Oahu deliver you into the heart of Hawaii. Oahu… sometimes words aren’t enough to describe how beautiful a place is. Imagine sitting on a technicolour beach straight out of a 1950s Elvis film, surrounded by exotica and pinching yourself to make sure it’s real. “Am I really here?” Yup, you are. Oahu is home to big cities Waikiki (which translates charmingly to ‘sprouting waters’) and Honolulu. Waikiki used to be the playground of Hawaii’s royalty and it is still a wealthy place, smart and spotless, full of history and set in stunning natural surroundings. Hotels in Oahu include a massive choice in Waikiki, many of which give fantastic views inland up to Diamond Head and down to the exotic palm fringed beaches.

Oahu Hotels – From posh resorts to beachfront huts

One of our favourite Hawaiian words is ‘Pahohoe’, the pillow shaped chunks of volcanic lava found throughout Hawaii. If you’re after traditional Hula Hula lessons, you’ll get the opportunity on Oahu. Hotels in Oahu range from the ultimate in luxury to affordable beachfront villas. The massive forty three acre resort at Ko Olina has a marina of its own, in south west of Oahu. As Oahu hotels go, this resort’s pure indulgence. The Ko Olina resort is in a posh area and has some wonderful features; seven gorgeous blue lagoons, countless miles of tropical shoreline and countless beach and ocean activities. Good hotels in Oahu also include the Marriot Ihilani Resort and Spa, a familiar name and close to both Paradise Cove Luau and Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park.

Hotels in Oahu

Honolulu is the cultural capital of Oahu, packed to the gills with art and history, amazing architecture – contemporary and traditional – and its own ‘Chinatown’ area. There’s a lot to do at night, everything from cool bars, wonderful restaurants and a few clubs. Hotels in Oahu don’t come better than the Hale Napohaku, a super beachfront holiday rental in Laie Bay on Oahu’s north shore. The Hale Napohaku is spotless, right on a marvellous beach and swimming area close to the famous Polynesian Cultural Centre and wildlife haven Turtle Bay.

Paradise won’t wait? Make your plans right now! Book a fantastic Oahu hotel here.

Oahu Holidays

There’s a great combination of culture, heritage, and fun in the sun Hawaii style here. Never on your holidays to Hawaii before? Then start with a holiday in O’ahu! Also often written as Oahu, this is where you’ll find over three quarters of the population of the entire state of Hawaii (all eight Hawaiian Islands) living. The historic city Honolulu is here, but there’s another city on this Oahutoo! It’s Waikiki and Waikiki is a perfect place if you want to combine posh shopping with remarkably lovely safe and shallow beaches, and some swanky tropical nightlife thrown in. Waimea Bay is where you can take to the waves on your surfboard, but only you need to be pretty damn experienced to take on the twenty foot plus waves, it’s a great spectator sport though!

Oahu Holidays

For a start just check out the Jurassic looking mountain ranges and wonder where you’ve seen them before, which will probably be most recently on the TV series ‘Lost’. The cave is in a warehouse in Honolulu, and many other locations you’ll recognise from the TV series are close to Honolulu, so close that we don’t know how they managed to get lost at all, the daft bunch, they were probably never more than 20 minute’s walk from a Starbucks all the time.

However, to be fare to Jack Fox and his mates, if you are going to get lost anywhere, Oahu is the place to do it. There’s more nightlife here than the other islands – head for Waikiki if you can’t go another day without hurling yourself stylishly round the dance floor to something irreverent from the 1980s. That’s not all you can do here of course – there’s everything from classical music to big shows and all types of clubs for your Oahu holidays.

Flights to Oahu – The ‘Gathering Place

Oahu is Hawaii’s third biggest island, a total of just over 600 square miles of semi-tropical loveliness. Also known as The Gathering Place, flights to Oahu take you to one of the friendliest of these very friendly islands. It has the biggest population of all Hawaii’s islands and it’s the most popular holiday destination. If you haven’t heard of Honolulu and Waikiki, you’ve probably been stuck in a hole in the ground for the past century or so; for most people Honolulu and Hawaii are synonymous. Like peaches and cream. Flights to Oahu drop you at Kailua Honolulu International Airport, the State’s main airport. If you want direct flights to Hawaii, this is where you’ll probably end up. Beware Hawaiian shirts. While they can look fairly cool under a semi tropical sky, they lose their allure completely once back on UK ground. And avoid Hawaiian shorts altogether; they’re a sartorial disaster in any language.

Oahu Flights – sixty nine beaches to choose from

With over 100 miles of delightful coastline including sixty nine beautiful beaches, flights to Oahu deliver everything you’d expect from a tropical paradise. A good number of the island’s beaches have lifeguards, unusual among the islands. The enormous curving beach at Waimanalo runs for four miles, although the one you’ll probably have heard of is the famous Waikiki Beach. Choose flights to Oahu if you want everything rolled into one. This island has great shopping, international cuisine and top notch entertainment in the cities, spectacular scenery inland, fantastic beaches, numerous state and country parks and masses more to see and do.

Flights to Oahu – A smart international airport

Honolulu airport offers everything you could need… smart, cool, efficient and just like any other major airport in the world. Good restaurants, bars and cafes. Loads of shopping opportunities. Cashpoint machines and post offices and duty free. Once you’re on land and away, that’s when the adventure starts. The minute you’re on the road you know you’re somewhere unbelievably exotic. Choose flights to Oahu in late January and celebrate the Chinese New Year. Join in the Honolulu Festival in March, Lei Day in May or one of the island’s other many and varied celebrations. Happy people, happy place.

A warm Hawaiian welcome at The Gathering Place. Book your flights to Oahu here.

Pearl HarbourOahu Island Attractions

There aren’t many places in America where you can visit the site of a historic World War II battle. Well, there’s only one we know of, and it’s on Oahu – Pearl Harbor. Be careful about mentioning Pearl Harbor to Americans, they often just walk off with bowed heads. Just make it clear you’re not talking about Pearl Harbor, the 2001 film (featuring the lovely Kate Beckinsale) and you’ll be okay.

You could spend a whole day exploring a USS submarine and the battleship Mighty Mo, or include Pearl Harbor as part of a tour taking in everything from film locations to dormant volcanoes, and the Arizona memorial National Park, which is at Pearl Harbour. Oahu still gets lots of Japanese visitors, but these days they are keener on Oahu for the shopping, nightlife, and as a wedding location. Not a single airborne torpedo has been launched in anger for nigh on 65 years.

Honolulu Zoo – Attractions Oahu Island - Hawaii

You have to travel over 2000 miles to find a bigger zoo! Try and get it together to book for the escorted ‘zoo by moonlight tour’ for an exciting nocturnal treat all the family can enjoy on your Oahu holiday.

Hawaiian Railway – Oahu Island Attractions - Hawaii

Okay, it’s only a little one, but trundling round Hawaii’s historic railway track for an hour and a half in an open carriage will certainly make a change from our own sorry attempxs at mass transit. Little excursions like this are the ones you’ll wish you’d done when you arrive back home and see them on a TV holiday programme months too late!

Waikiki Public Aquarium – Attractions Oahu Island - Hawaii

A great place to sea tropical reef things that live in the water, but this time they’re not very far from their natural environment. A trip here might or might not put you off going in the sea yourself, depending on your point of view. There aren’t many places where you’ll see endangered Hawaiian monk seals, or sea jellies, so once again another opportunity for you to move AWAY from the beaches, and to learn more about the local marine biology by looking at it face to face – in the safety of a controlled environment.

The total flight time from the UK to Hawaii is in the region of 16 and half hours not including stopovers. International flights usually arrive on Oahu, at Honolulu Airport.
