Hotels in Molokia – Heaven for nature lovers

Molokai is Hawaii's ecological jewel, a haven for nature lovers and adventurers alike. Hotels in Molokia cater for eco-tourists and lovers of sea life, hikers and golfers. As well as people who just want to lounge around doing bugger all in paradise for a couple of weeks. Molokai is almost completely car free so it has a remarkably peaceful fee. You don’t realise how noisy the ambient sound of traffic is until it is suddenly – and beautifully – not there any more. The pace of life here is slow and hotels in Molokia reflect the chilled pace of things. We love the Dunbar Beachfront Cottages, two well equipped cottages each on its own quiet beach. From there you can do fine snorkelling, heavenly swimming, diving, body boarding and good old fashioned sunbathing.

Molokia Hotels – Nothing taller than a palm tree

There are no sky rise buildings here. Molokia residents are proud to announce that none of the island’s buildings is taller than a palm tree. Quite right too. It is a picture perfect place, far too pretty to spoil. Hotels in Molokia? There’s a great choice. Try the Miller Molokai is a private holiday rental with ocean views, just 300m from Papohaku Beach. They offer four en suite suites sharing a kitchen, dining and living area. Like many hotels in Molokia, there’s a swimming pool and Jacuzzi set in gorgeous, lush private gardens.

Hotels in Molokia – Traditional celebrations for culture vultures

In January hotels in Molokia host crowds of people celebrating the Makahiki, the end of the harvest and the time when Hawaiians traditionally had a break from any wars going on at the time. How sensible! The festival still takes place today, in late January of each year, in the shape of inter-district sporting events and competitions. Molokia preserves its own unique Makahiki traditions on top of all that, putting on lectures, talks and arts & crafts workshops and ceremonies. Hotels in Molokia come in all shapes and sizes, from small luxury hotels to quaint old Hawaiian style hotels, posh resorts, condominiums and private rentals. If you prefer to steer clear of Molokia hotels try camping in style or take your on tent and rough it.

Whatever you want, you can book your Molokia hotel here!

Molokai Island  Holidays

Molokai is known widely as ‘the Most Hawaiian Island’ and prides itself on its tradition and ‘old Hawaii’ culture. Choose Molokai for your Hawaii holidays and step back in time to somewhere that’s so light on traffic there aren’t any traffic lights. There are great places to eat here, it’s not as rural as a Lanai holiday, so you could spend a few weeks on holiday here and have plenty of choice each day. There’s no shortage of places to stay either.

Molokai Island Holidays

You might hear Molokai referred to as ‘the leper island’, but don’t you listen to such nonsense. That’s a story going back over 140 years and now, and leprosy hasn’t been contagious since drugs were developed 60 years ago anyway. Oh dear, what with the lack of big shops, only local ones (for local people) and the leper colony in the distant past, it’s all sounding a bit League of Gentlemen. We think the people of Molokai like it that way as it helps ensure the island doesn’t become a victim of its own success, you know, like Kingston-upon-Thames did. However, that’s not to mean you’ll get anything other than the warmest welcome here whilst on your Molokai holiday. Don’t forget that this is ‘The Friendly Island’ because the aloha spirit* is very much a way of life here.

*WHAT? You don’t know what the Aloha spirit is? It is actually LAW in Hawaii, seriously! It’s on the books (Hawaii Revised Statutes, section 5-7.5). If you’re a citizen of Hawaii, you’re bound BY LAW to ‘think and emote good feelings to others’, how? Generally by using kindness, humility, patience, unity, and other lovely things. Can someone bring back a copy and send it to Ken Livingstone please? Book a Molokai Island holiday and experience what the Aloha spirit first-hand.

Flights to Molokai – Warm friendly, hospitable locals

Take flights to Molokai, the fifth biggest Hawaiian island, thirty eight miles long and a skinny ten miles wide. True to Hawaiian tradition, the island has another name; the Friendly Island. Molokai has three main towns; Kaunakakai is home to about 2,700 people, Kualapuu has just under 1000 inhabitants and tiny Maunaloa Village has less than 150.  Flights to Molokai deposit you at Molokai Airport, AKA Hoolehua Airport, right in the middle of the island and served by a decent handful of airlines including Hawaiian Airlines, the handy Molokai Air Shuttle and Pacific Wings. Many islanders commute by air so, like all the Hawaiian islands, Molokai is a great base from which to explore the rest of the archipelago.

Molokai Flights – More than 100 miles of coastline

There’s also an airport on Kalaupapa Peninsula, but this mainly serves the island’s world famous Hansen’s disease community and staff working at the fantastic National Historical Park, a wonderful place to visit. Choose flights to Molokai and visit a variety of exciting places by ferry; the Molokai-Maui Ferry leaves from Lahaina Harbor twice a day dropping off at Maui and Kaunakakai Harbour. There are 34 gorgeous beaches on Molokai but you can only swim safely from six of them. A few have public facilities, and they’re all utterly lovely. Head inland and visit Palaau State Park or the Kalaupapa National Historic Park, or climb Kamakou, almost 5000 feet of mountain, if you dare.

Flights to Molokai – Several climates on one island

Flights to Molokai drop you in a place with a variety of climates. In the east it is cooler and wetter with lush emerald green rain forests and deep valleys. In the centre and west it is warmer and drier, especially along the coast. In winter, when it’s totally crap in the UK, Molokai averages 77°F… lovely. Top picks for places to visit? The spectacular Halawa Valley, delicious Papohaku Beach and pretty Papohaku Park, and the island’s enlightening Museum & Cultural Centre.

Spectacular beaches, amazing scenery. Book your flights to Molokia here.

Moaula Falls, Halawa Valley – Attractions in Molokai Island – Hawaii
