Hotels in Rhodes – Medieval buildings and sandy beaches

Rhodes, the island’s capital city, sits within a Venetian castle built by the Knights of Saint John. History buffs will love the city’s Byzantine churches and this is one of Greece’s most popular holiday islands. Hotels in Rhodes cater for all tastes, from basic to luxury. The brand new Pollonio Studios are located in Faliraki, a spotless complex of two bed apartments with shower, somewhere to cook and a ‘fridge. Self-catering heaven! Hotels in Rhodes are all pretty convenient, it isn’t a massive place. These studios are only 100m from the beach.

Rhodes Hotels – Good clubbing, great bars, superb food

Rhodes hotels give holidaymakers easy access to a fantastic choice of bars, some whopping great big night clubs, a few top class piano bars plus all sorts of theatres and cinemas. Lively place! Golden View Studios were built in 1995 near Vlycha, close to the delightful town of Lindos. The apartments are, like many hotels in Rhodes, close to the beach but at 1km away, you’ll enjoy peaceful nights. Just 28 miles from Rhodes city.

Hotels in Rhodes – Busy resort or inland haven

Hotels in Rhodes cater for buzzy, exciting, nightlife-filled holidays but you can also find a lovely quiet hideaway if that’s what you’d prefer. Rhodes is stuffed with picturesque villages and towns, all of which have accommodation on offer; single rooms, studios, apartments and posh hotels.  The Esmeralda Hotel is family run, in the pretty, historic village of Kremasti in the north. 15 minutes from a lovely shingle beach, the Esmeralda has its own bar and restaurant. And, like most hotels in Rhodes, there’s a cool outdoor fresh water pool.

Here are just some of the hotels and resorts we sell in Rhodes

Cheap Holidays to Rhodes -  Something For Everyone

Rhodes is more than just a daytrip on yout Faliraki holidays, Bar Street (Ermou Street), and goldfish in cocktails (we mean cocktails in goldfish bowls of course). Take the Old Town of Rhodes, possibly the easiest place in the world to get lost in, as over 200 streets haven’t got a name. The Knights of St John lived here about 600 years ago, hence the Castle of the Knights. It’s a walled town and all very medieval there are some museums for you to discover, but head for the Street of the Knights (which is called Ippoton on local maps). It’s almost perfectly preserved and over 500 years old. A real walk back in time without the aid of trick lighting, computers, or out of work actors.

Cheap Rhodes Holidays -  The Old Town

There are Municipal Baths here too, but don’t pop in hoping for a swimming pool. Turkey has left its mark on much of Greece and these Turkish Baths are one such example that’s still popular with many of the locals, especially on a Saturday. The Square of the Jewish Martyrs, which some people call Seahorse Square because of the seahorse in the fountain is dedicated to the 1,604 Jews who were rounded up here and sent to Auschwitz.

Low Cost Holidays to Rhodes - The New Town

Rhodes Old Town is only part of the picture though, there’s a New Town too. It’s Rhodes New Town you want to head to for bars, nightclubs, and tavernas. The Acropolis of Rhodes on Mount Smith overlooks both Rhodes Old Town and Rhodes New Town. While high up there is plenty of shade, so don’t be scared.

Rhodes Holidays - Great Museums

The Hospital of the Knights is now the Archaeological Museum. It’s worth going there just so at every football match or fete you attend forever after, you’ll be able to point at a St John Ambulance man (or woman) and tell whoever you’re with about the ancient order of St John and how it began in the 11th century when some monks started looking after some pilgrims in the Holy Land, adding that you’ve been in ‘their old office’, in Rhodes. All inclusive Rhodes holidays are available throughout the year.

Flights to Rhodes – A jewel in the Aegean Sea

Rhodes is also called Rodos. Flights to Rhodes deposit you on a delightful island in the warm, calm Aegean Sea, the biggest of the Greek Dodecanese Islands. Amazingly, Rhodes is only a few miles from exotic Asia Minor, just six miles away across the water. Being so far south in such a southern location, Rhodes has a wonderful climate. Choose flights to Rhodes and you’ll fly into Rhodes Diagoras Airport, about ten miles south west of Rhodes’ capital city, also called Rhodes, and not far from Paradhissi.

Rhodes Flights – Driving, buses and taxis

Once you’ve arrived, getting around the island of Rhodes is easy enough. As everywhere in Greece, the locals are very friendly, dedicated anglophiles. Hit the main road that parallels the island’s gorgeous North Western coast and follow the road signs. Buses leave from close to the terminal building to Rhodes city and key resort destinations. Choose flights to Rhodes with a package holiday operator and you’ll get transfers thrown in. If you haven’t, no worries… you can hail a taxi complete with chatty, warm hearted driver in front of the terminal. You’ll find Rhodes, one of Greece’s biggest islands, a hilly place inland but the hills aren’t bleak; they’re green, heavily forested, shady and cool. The climate? Choose flights to Rhodes if you thrive in a fresh subtropical climate, where the fierce heat is calmed by lovely, cool westerly winds.

Flights to Rhodes – Lindos, Kamiros and Iaslysos

Rhodes is stuffed full of archaeology and three of the island’s biggest cities have revealed heaps of superb finds and treasures. When you pick flights to Rhodes you’ll find yourself taken back in time as well as to a significantly hotter place than home. The ancient Greek ruins at Lindos, Kamiros and Ialysos are only the half of it. Explore further, ask at the local tourist office for details and you’ll uncover gems from early Christian times, including the most fantastic and intricately decorated Byzantine churches. And the beaches… pure heaven. Rhodes’ coastline is stunning; perfect for lounging, water sports and simple pleasures like paddling, collecting shells and burying your folks in the sand.

Attractions Rhodes - The Water Park

Here you go – we love a Water Park at Beat the brochure and this is a pretty good one. There are loads of rides, or slides, well you would expect there to be loads at Europe’s biggest Water Park wouldn’t you? Take your sun cream and reapply it a lot throughout the day or you’ll come home looking like a beetroot.

Rhodes Attractions - Lindos Acropolis

Acropolis means ‘high city’ or ‘city above’, so Athens doesn’t have the only one. There’s a city above Lindos, Lindos Acropolis (Lindos is close to Faliraki) that began life well over 2000 years ago. Lindos itself is a good place to retreat from Faliraki to. It has clubs and bars of its own that are a little more civilised than those found on Bar Street in Faliraki. Back up on the Acropolis, it certainly is high so be prepared to work up a sweat weaving through the streets of the typically Greek town until you have to start climbing the steps up to the ruins of the Acropolis.

Attractions Rhodes - The Archaeological Museum of Rhodes

Building began on this impressive old ‘hospital’ in 1440. The Hospital of the Knights is now the Archaeological Museum, so it’s worth going there just so at every football match or fete you attend forever after, you’ll be able to point at a St John Ambulance man (or woman) and tell whoever you’re with about the ancient order of St John and how it began in the 11th century when some monks started looking after some pilgrims in the Holy Land, adding that you’ve been in ‘their old office’, in Rhodes. Look out for the Aphrodite of Rhodes, which is a marvellous marble sculpxure over 2000 years old.

Rhodes Tourist Attractions - The Beaches

Loads of them! Get out there and discover them yourself, that’s part of the fun of going on holiday! However, here’s a brochure-beating leg up: Pallas Beach, St Paul's Bay, Faliraki beach are some of the island’s loveliest, but great beaches are everywhere, really! You can’t miss them either, as they’re handily on the edge of the island just between the land and the sea. Lalysos bay has the right amount of handy clubs, shops, hotels and facilities to use, whether you’re there for the day or the fortnight. In Faliraki in addition to Faliraki beach there’s also Kathara bay, Antony Quinn Bay, Ladiko beach and Tragano beach, which is pebbled. Antony Quinn Bay is, apparently, named after a famous actor who played Zorba the Greek in a 1964 film, we don’t know who though.

Plentiful inexpensive and direct flights take you to Rhodes in about four hours and ten minutes. Rhodes has one of the better Greek island airports, but still a Greek island airport and not a major international hub, so keep an open mind and be aware that there aren’t the facilities you’d get at Gatwick or Heathrow should you be delayed at all. Don’t let your own lack of planning or awareness spoil what’s sure to be a great holiday!
