Holidays in South Beach - Fantastic Nightlife
Have lunch on Ocean Drive then explore the fabulous shops. It’s just 20 minutes from the airport in a cab to South Beach in Miami, you could manage without a car too, which is usually unheard of in the US! You could hire a scooter or two and have a look round, but if you want to come here for the nightlife alone, or break up your Orlando theme park holiday with a weekend of nightclubs and people watching, you can easily get by without transport on your holiday in south beach. What’s more, you don’t have to spend a fortune, but you will soon start to feel like a millionaire after you’ve wandered around and soaked up some of the atmosphere!
The Biltmore Hotel – South Beach Holidays – Miami
The Biltmore Hotel has catered for royalty from Europe and ‘royalty’ from Hollywood. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor (no, not them, we’re in the 1920s here), Ginger Rogers, Judy Garland, Bing Crosby, and Al Capone were frequent guests. It's still where it always was and is preserved and updated. There’s a huge swimming pool where Johnny Weissmuller of Tarzan fame made his name as a performer, and where the largest pool in the USA hosted those frankly weird synchronized swimming shows that were so popular in the 1930s. Mind you, the 1930s has a few things to answer for.
Coconut Grove – South Beach Holidays – Miami
An eclectic neighbourhood that's home to artists and writers, so a bit like Leigh-on-Sea then. Enjoy the luxury shops, trendy stores and chic restaurants by day, and in the evening its lively nightlife. Hmmm, that Leigh-on-Sea comparison is beginning to fade. The Ritz-Carlton hotel is here and its Italian Renaissance magnificence is yours for the taking. It’s one of those hotels that look unattainably expensive, but there are some great deals available and you can really live the high life here. Mind you, there’s always Leigh-on-Sea’s Grand Hotel.
Miami Seaquarium – South Beach Holiday – Miami
Miami Seaquarium has exciting shows, great exhibits and enjoyable, educational presentations in a beautifully landscaped 35 acre park overlooking Biscayne Bay. You'll see whales, sea lions, turtles, sharks, manatees, birds, alligators and more.
There’s a ‘swim with dolphins’ experience available here now, should you want to jump in the same water as a pool full of razor toothed maniacs. However, it’s not compulsory to share the water with the dolphins. You can relax and watch the dolphin in his natural environment instead, which in Miami is a roman coliseum-like show ring, where Mr Dolphin frequently feels the need to leap into the air in unison with four of his mates, splashing the audience as they land. Hmmm.
