Fort Lauderdale - Gold Coast Attractions Fort Lauderdale is right in the middle of Florida's Gold Coast and known as the 'Venice of America' as you can get around Fort Lauderdale almost exclusively on water taxis! Fort Lauderdale is a city of islands, built on a network of canals, rivers, bays and waterways, and fronted by 23 miles of Atlantic Ocean facing beaches. Cocoa Beach - Attractions Gold Coast Cocoa Village nestles along Indian River Lagoon and features beautiful architecture and quaint specialty shops and boutiques, casual cafes and swanky restaurants. Hear a roaring in the distance? Don’t worry it’s probably just a rocket departing from the nearby Cape Canaveral, if you’re lucky it might even be a Space Shuttle launch. These are the nearest beaches to Orlando. Palm Beach - Gold Coast Attractions The palm trees that line Palm Beach are rumoured to have landed ashore in 1878 when a ship laden with Cuban coconuts was wrecked. Palm Beach has long been the traditional winter home of America's aristocracy, the Kennedys, Rockefellers, Trumps and other US society names filling the vintage mansions on the island. Gumbo Limbo Environmental Complex - Attractions Gold Coast Gumbo Limbo is named after a species of tree, but here there’s a 20 acre marine estuary reserve dedicated to preserving a concentration of plants known locally as a 'tropical hammock'. The environmental complex also includes large outdoor aquariums containing local marine life, including the area's ubiquitous sea turtles, some of which are huge. Marine Life Center - Gold Coast Attractions The Marine Life Center on the oceanfront at Loggerhead Park monitors turtles along the Gold Coast. The Center is really a turtle hospital, and visitors can see ill and injured creatures being rehabilitated. There are numerous exhibits, including tropical fish, and a gift shop. Guided 'turtle walks' are offered during June and July, but bookings must be made in advance. Kennedy Space Center - Attractions Gold Coast 45 minutes from the popular Orlando theme parks is NASA’s launch headquarters. You can tour launch areas, meet an astronaut, see giant rockets, train in spaceflight simulators, and even view a launch. There you go – your Florida holiday can take in wildlife, sunsets, great food, cycling, space flight, and that’s even before you’ve considered a single one of Orlando’s 95 theme parks!
