Sinai Mountain – Sharm el Sheikh Attractions – Egypt
Mt Sinai isn't the highest mountain in the area, or even the most interesting. However, this is where God spoke to Moses, apparently, and for thousands of years it's thus been a site of pilgrimage. There are ancient chapels and structures honouring saints and the Virgin Mary along the main route, called Sikket Saydna Musa ('The Path of Moses'), and there's the natural amphitheater where 70 wise men waited while God spoke with Moses, and a small chapel and mosque at the top. Like it does to many aspects of Egypt, mystery surrounds the Mt Sinai, but don’t forget that it's still a big flippin' mountain and you need to be in good shape to make it to the top in the desert heat. Its summit is 7,498 feet up the Path of Moses, which has 4,000 steps! So it's hiking shoes please, and lots of water.
