Hotels in Protaras – Ayia Napa’s quieter cousin!

If you’d rather steer clear of Ayia Napa’s frantic pace, go for Protaras. It is only ten minutes way but much calmer and you’ll find hotels in Protaras to suit every budget. Protaras sits between Cape Greco and Paralimni, on the gorgeous Fig Tree Bay’s 10+ miles of golden beaches. The four star Capo Bay Hotel is billed as an elegant hideaway and they’re not wrong. As hotels in Protaras go, this one’s hard to beat. Partly because Fig Tree Bay beach is so, so lovely. Even though this is a luxurious place, you’ll feel at home.

Protaras Hotels – Walk, cycle and bike the coast

Protaras hotels along the main coastal road give you access to some great walking, cycling and motorbiking. Between the resort and Paralimni then on into Ayia Napa, about 10 miles away, there’s a really good pedestrian route. Imagine staying at hotels in Protaras, being able to walk home from Iyia Napa on a hot night. Take all night if you want, but it should take you about three hours at normal speed! The 2 star Chrystalla Hotel has breathtaking views over Fig Tree Bay and it is really close to the beach. You’ll be given a traditional warm Cypriot welcome – they really are very friendly. Stay here for a Protaras hotel with traditional Cypriot hospitality.

Hotels in Protaras – Wildeness, golf and water sports

Most hotels in Protaras are close enough for rock and roll to a decent golf course if you’re into it. You can also ride horses, shoot things (if you must), play beach volleyball, exhaust yourself with Squash and even go bowling. I’m knackered already just thinking about it. The Narcissos Hotel is an elegant 3 star Protaras hotel offering spotless studios and apartments. Quiet and low key, you’ll find it between Cape Greco and Paralimni. Many hotels in Protaras have lovely gardens and this one’s no exception, complete with eccentric but pretty fountains in the pool.

Protaras Holiday -  Great for Relaxing

Fancy a trip right to the south east tip of the lovely island for your Cyprus holidays? Protaras is the tourist area of Paralimni (which is where lots of the locals live). Protaras is one hour's drive from Larnaca Airport. There are lots of local bars here all vying for your attention with different gimmicks, such as a resident Elvis lookey-likey, but you’re only a few minutes drive from Ayia Napa itself anyway. By day there are the beaches of Protaras and lovely local bays to explore, as well as boat trips to take to help you make the best of the Mediterranean on your Protaras holiday.

Protaras Holidays -  Plenty of Attractions

You should take a holiday in Protaras if you’re not quite sure you’re up to Ayia Napa holidays! There are boat trips to take and if you do go on a boat trip you’ll go past Famagusta, the ‘ghost city’, which the Turkish military occupied in 1974. Lots of the people in Southern Cyprus are still understandably cross about being booted out of their homes.  If you want a great view, then visit the church of the prophet Elias.  Its over a 100m above ground, and offers a fantastic view of the resort and its coastline.

Cheap Holidays in Protaras -  Retail Therapy

The shops in Protaras are unashamedly aimed at tourists.  You can find bargains on everything from clothes to handmade souvenirs.  The supermarkets offer plenty of cheap alcohol and cigarettes.  Ayia Napa is just 10 miles away if your looking for a more designer experience.  This is handy if you fancy the odd night out there too. Protaras holidays are great destination for your Cyprus holidays.

Flights to Protaras – Hot in summer, closed in winter

Book your flights to Protaras in the summer season, or you’ll be stuffed… this is a resort, pure and simple. Fiercely hot in the peak season, averaging 33C in August the place shuts down Between November and April, becoming a ghost town. As you can imagine, flights to Protaras don’t exactly deposit you in a fantasy island paradise. No, no, no. It is butt ugly, purpose built to house sun seekers and revellers. But wait a mo’… there’s a silver lining to every cloud and flights to Protaras give you access to one of the best beaches in Cyprus, Fig Tree Bay. Oh, now this is the business. So what if Protaras is a bit of a minger? Fig Tree Bay, as beaches go, is a supermodel.

Protaras Flights – Hit Paralimni for the best shopping

Flights to Protaras land you at Larnaca International Airport, the biggest of the island’s two airports and only an hour’s drive away. Protaras’ resort area is small and intimate so there’s no need to hire a car unless you’re hell bent on road tripping your way around the island. There are loads of places to buy all your basic beach stuff; beach balls and games and swimming gear and buckets and spades and the like. But the shopping’s much better at nearby Paralimni. Flights to Protaras give you the opportunity to explore Larnaca itself, well worth a visit before you trot off to your hotel.

Flights to Protaras – Airport expansion underway

They’re working hard at the moment building a new terminal at Larnaca airport, due to be finished in 2013. So flights to Protaras are due to become an easier, smoother and more luxurious experience before long. Protaras itself is history-free and as bland as a bland thing, with nothing much to see in the area other than sand, sea and hotels. But if you’re a beach holiday purist, determined to remain horizontal on the sand throughout the daylight hours, history won’t matter a stuff. Flights to Protaras equals flights to a holiday resort, full stop. If you get desperate for something a bit different, nearby Paralimni has some cool shops and proper Cypriot tavernas for a faint taste of authentic Cyprus.

Prepare to get seriously horizontal… book your flights to Protaras here!

Famagusta – Protaras Attractions – Cyprus

Going to Ayia Napa on a lad’s holiday? If you really want to impress your mates, get them to the green line (you’ll soon find out about the green line when you’re there) and get passes to Famagusta. You’ll still be talking about the trip in years to come, long after whatever you got up to in Ayia Napa’s clubs has been forgotten.
There are buses from either Larnaca or Paphos airports, but cabs are good value and easier. Many resorts have shuttle services. The flight time from the UK to either airport is about four and a half hours.
