Hotels in Larnaca – Contemporary hotels, ancient history

Larnaca is full of contradictions. On one hand you’ve got the Neolithic settlement at Choirokitia, whose ancient inhabitants made a good living looking after livestock, hunting and trading with nearby villages. It dates back to 5800BC, a fantastic thought. On the other hand their descendants have built a wonderful choice of hotels in Larnaca offering every modern convenience and gadgets galore. The Lordos Beach Hotel has been described as ‘scrumptious’, which we liked a lot! Some feel this is one of the best hotels in Larnaca; 4 star, directly on the golden beach at Larnaka Bay, modern as a modern thing and set in lovely gardens.

Larnaca Hotels – Good value accommodation

If lying on the beach starts to drive you nuts after a couple of days, there’s plenty to do in Larnaca. Sporty types join rank amateurs in all sorts of water sports and adventurous stuff, from horse rides to camel rides, go karting, banana boat madness and water skiing. Larnaca hotels also offer good value – try the Adonis Hotel Apartments. Clean and cool and comfortable, they’re only five minutes’ drive from Larnaca centre and ten from the airport.

Hotels in Larnaca – Lounge on the splendid Makenzie Beach

Makenzie Beach is a beauty, renowned for beautiful white sand and proper in-your-face blue Mediterranean seas. All beachside hotels in Larnaca have watersports facilities and this is no exception. Enjoy scuba diving and see the rich sea-life up close and personal. Those fish taste as good as they look and the seafood in Larnaca is legendary. The Lenios Hotel is typical of the area, a splendid complex right on Larnaca's palm lined shore overlooking the beach. This isn’t a large town so, like most of the hotels in Larnaca, it is only a few minutes’ walk from the town centre.

Here are just some of the hotels and resorts we sell in Larnaca

Larnaca Holiday -  Lovely Beaches and Plenty of Culture

You might well be flying into Larnaca airport wherever you’re going on your Cyprus holidays, and Ayia Napa is not far away from this interesting town, so it’s not totally out of the question that you’ll encounter Larnaca during your visit. There are some lovely beaches and great restaurants where you can try authentic meze, which is a more eastern version of tapas (those small dishes served in Spain that originally began life as things to keep flies out of drinks!)

Larnaca Holidays -  Lots of History

Larnaca is one of the oldest cities in the world to be continuously inhabited. It’s supposedly the final resting place of Lazarus, he who was resurrected by Jesus. There are lovely palm tree lined streets and plenty of cool tavernas to have a drink in, and shops to buy souvenirs. Those silver spoons and forks you see everywhere are popular Cypriot hospitality symbols. Excellent value all inclusive Cyprus holidays are available and you will most likely arrive in Larnaca so why not explore the city.

Larnaca Holiday -  Great Location

Larnaca is home to the largest international airport in Cyprus.  This means quick transfer times to your hotel.  Its also close to Ayia Napa, so you can relax here, but be close to the nightlife if you want a night out.  The weather is fantastic during most months of the year.  Larnaca holidays are great for relaxing, and an excellent choice for families.

Flights to Larnaca – A compact town with excellent transport links

If flights to Larnaca take your fancy, you’re in the right place. You can book yours here. Larnaca’s an ancient place full of old buildings and monuments and monasteries, solid evidence of a history going back 6000+ years. Flights to Larnaca drop you right in the middle of all this history, even though it is sometimes buried at least six deep in holidaymakers. Larnaca has six wonderful museums and archaeological sites bang in the city centre and it is a great hopping off point for the rest of Cyprus, an island of great variety and charm. Choose flights to Larnaca if you’re into lively nightlife too; there’s masses of tavernas, cafes, bars, restaurants and other good eateries. And Ayia Napa’s only an hour’s drive away.

Larnaca Flights – Destination? Larnaca airport

Larnaca is, unsurprisingly, home to Larnaca Airport, Cyrpus’s main international airport and just four miles or so away by car. The local taxi drivers are friendly and drive like the wind, a bit hair raising but nowhere near as scary as Rome. Choose flights to Larnaca and rent a car at the airport, a good low cost option if exploring’s your thing. Larnaca itself is only little so you can walk everywhere if you like, no problem. While many people book their flights to Larnaca airport their final destinations are spread far and wide across the island. Cyprus’s main road flows out of Larnaca so it’s an easy matter to head from there to resorts like Paphos and Limassol.

Flights to Larnaca – Poke around in the Pierides

If you’ve got a few hours to spare and you’re a fan of the eccentric side of life, hop over to the wonderful Pierides Museum, a slightly mad (they call it eclectic) collection of objects, relics, art and other marvellous stuff collected from all over Cyprus. Or take flights to Larnaca and use the city as your base for exploring places like Kition, the age old site of the original Larnica. Most of it is buried underground but it pokes through in places. Passengers on flights to Larnaca airport will see big improvements underway. The all singing all dancing new airport opens at Larnaca on November 11th 2009.

St Lazarus Church - Larnaca Attractions – Cyprus

This was built in the 9th century on the site of the Lazarus tomb. Lazarus, so it’s said, travelled to Larnaca after his resurrection by Jesus, (well you’d need a holiday after that wouldn’t you? I mean, you’d be all out of sorts) and he became the bishop of Larnaca.

The tomb of Lazarus is now inside the church under the main altar. There’s a small museum containing liturgical utensils. Although what liturgical utensils have to do with Lazarus we don’t know. Ah, we looked it up: liturgical means ‘something to do with Catholic Church services’, so that’s quite appropriate after all. We were thinking of lethargical utensils, like TV remote controls.

Larnaca Castle - Attractions in Larnaca – Cyprus

You can’t miss Larnaca Castle. From its walls there’s a grand view of the Scala Quarter and the mosque. There’s a good archaeological museum in the castle that’s laid out like a maze  and dedicated to ancient Kition, which you can see some ancient ruins of (Kition) in the north part of Larnaca.
The flight time to Larnaca airport from the UK is about four and a half hours and the airport is just 10 minutes out of town.
