Hotels in Lanzarote – Beaches, beaches and more beaches

Lanzarote is a rocky volcanic island and, in the interior, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d been abducted by aliens and taken to the moon. Freaky… it’s an extraordinary landscape. Apparently the locals used to say that God forgot Lanzarote on the seventh day of creation. Hm. Not sure what that means. It sure is strange, though. But don’t worry, the hotels in Lanzarote are perfectly normal. And the beaches are as good as you’ll find anywhere in the Canaries. The 3 star H10 Lanzarote Gardens Hotel sits on the Costa de Teguise, a mere 200m Las Cucharas Beach and close enough to the airport for rock ‘n’ roll. Like a lot of the hotels in Lanzarote, the Lanzarote gardens hotel is huge. 242 comfortable rooms, two pools, a safe pool for kids and tennis courts. If you’re a harassed parent desperate for a break, the H10 Family Club programme will keep the little ‘uns out of your hair. Phew!

Lanzarote Hotels – Moonscapes and volcanic marvels

Lanzarote is built by volcanoes. Some were active as recently as the 1800s and, as a result, the soil is fantastic. Keen gardeners will find it hard to resist filling their luggage with good, rich soil, leaving their clothes for hotel staff to puzzle over. I resisted… just. The Hotel Aquarius sits bang in the centre of Puerto Del Carmen opposite Varadero’s delighful fishing port. Choose this Lanzarote hotel and you’ll find yourself right on the doorstep of all sorts of holiday treats; bars, restaurants, shops and the beautiful Playa Chica beach. There’s a big pool area and all rooms have sea views to die for.

Hotels in Lanzarote – Art and culture

If you’ve never heard of revered Canarian architect and artist Cesar Manrique, give the man a Google and find out more. What a guy. A marvellous painter and sculptor, he was also a talented architect, ecologist, gardener, landscape artist and urban planner. You’ll find evidence of his passion for Lanzarote everywhere once you know where to look. So most hotels in Lanzarote give visitors easy access to his legacy one way or another. Great food for culture vultures. For a spot of exclusive luxury, dip your toe in the convenient Sands Beach Resort, just twenty minutes from the airport. Choose from a delightful waterfront apartment on a private beach (the sand’s so white!) or what they call a ‘Plaza’ apartment, complete with private swimming pool. Nice.

Cheap Lanzarote Holidays -  So much to Explore

Find a cheap package deal and embark on a journey to Lanzarote! Although initially Lanzarote looks a bit barren compared to the other Canary Islands holiday destinations, and certainly would have done to you if you were an early adopter and visited 25 years ago, the whole of the island is a Biosphere Reserve, as it has so many interesting features. You just need to know where to look.  Cueva de los Verdes is a half mile long chasm that’s part of a much longer ‘lava tube’ left after an eruption 5000 years ago. Although it sounds like something a plumber unblocks your bog with, a ‘lava tube’ is an amazingly eerie cave left by liquid lava as it moves on beneath a solidified ‘roof’.

Cheap Lanzarote Holidays -  Many Attractions

There is a beautiful semi-underground lake in the middle of the Jameos del Agua, another lava tube. Bars and a restaurant have been installed around the lake, and there are even gigs there sometimes.  The Parque Nacional de Timanfaya is a marvellous example of what six years of feisty volcanic eruption does to a place. Go to the restaurant here Restaurant del Diablo, which our rudimentary Spanish translates to ‘Restaurant of the Devil’. Don’t let that put you off though as it’s not everywhere you can eat food cooked on a barbecue heated directly by a volcano. You can see where they are going with the name can’t you? We’re sure there’s no actual satanic involvement, just heat from the fiery depths. We recommend you take a priest with you though, just in case.

Low Cost Lanzarote Holidays -  Something for Everyone

Holidays to Costa Teguise offer luxurios hotels and is the place to go for those five star hotels. Watersports is the order of the day in this peaceful and successful resort and there’s a handy golf course should you want to indulge. Playa Blanca holidays are for you if you want to wander about enjoying your holiday, being near the sea, and not really doing too much. Fantastic choices of cheap Lanzarote holidays resorts are available throughout the year.

Flights to Lanzarote – Duty free heaven

The Canary Islands all have special Duty Free status so all your usual indulgences like tobacco, booze and perfume are a great deal cheaper than normal. Cool. As we write there’s a tobacco allowance of 200 cigarettes and you can safely pick up 60cc of perfume or 250cc eau de toilette without being told off. If you’re exploring flights to Lanzarote for a beach holiday bear in mind that much of the coast is rocky rather than sandy. Not to worry, they’ve imported sand from Africa and Europe to make up for it. For water sports and sun worshipping you can’t beat the golden sands at Famara, in the lee of the mountain and a haven for keen surfers. Choose flights to Lanzarote if you like the sound all this, and the supremely lovely Punto del Papagayo beach, unromantically translated as ‘The Parrot Spot’.

Lanzarote Flights – Four hours away from sea and sand

Flights to Lanzarote come in all shapes and sizes from low cost bargain bucket to standard stuff. You can fly with British Airways, MyTravel Airways, Jet 2 and Thomsonfly, amongst others, and flights to Lanzarote depart from airports right across the UK. Flight length? About four hours. Once you’ve arrived you’ll find getting around a dream. This is only a little island and the local pubic transport is excellent. Flights to Lanzarote deposit you at the island’s only airport, unsurprisingly called Lanzarote Airport! The island might be small but the tourist trade’s enormous… 5.6 million passengers passed through their gates during 2007, making it Spain’s ninth biggest airport.

Flights to Lanzarote – Visit Arrecife for sightseeing

The capital of Lanzarote is Arrecife, a pretty little place with a few decent tourist hot spots. Flights to Lanzarote are mostly all about beach holidays and sunshine but if you fancy some light relief from lying horizontal on the sand, try San Gabriel castle on for size, complete with museum and church. The Charco area of town is lovely; green with palm trees, quaint buildings and loads of interesting shops to rummage in. Choose Lanzarote flights and hire a car to get the island’s full impact; you can fly from 19 UK airports. Which airports offer the biggest choice of flights to Lanzarote? Newcastle, Gatwick, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Luton and Manchester.

The Cactus Garden – Lanzarote Attractions  – The Canary Islands

El Jardin del Cactus is, surprisingly, a collection of Cacti. There are over 1000 of the spikey little beggars here. Not a good place to visit when you’re the worse for wear and in danger of falling over a lot. However, if you’re prone to going to look at such plants, Lanzarote and its volcanic backdrop is the place to do it.

While there, you might like to collar a Cactus Garden member of staff and ask why, as cactus was originally a Greek word, is the plural not cactuses? In the event you don’t manage to raise this, you can rest assured that at Beat the Brochure we are doing everything we can to look into this etymological issue. If anyone argues, just say: ‘omnibus’ to them and watch them squirm. Don’t say radius though. Or fungus. On reflection it would be best to just keep quiet about the whole thing.

Timanfaya – Attractions in Lanzarote – The Canary Islands

Fire Mountain should really be compulsory for anyone visiting Lanzarote. You can take a camel up the 500 foot climb, well not just take it, ride it. This is where the El Diablo restaurant cooks your lunch on volcanic heat from the very fiery depxhs of hell itself. That camel had better behave itself on the way up, or else.

Jameos del Agua – Lanzarote Attractions – The Canary Islands

Jameos del Agua is a theatre made from a lava bubble, which is a phenomenon caused by gases exploding in molten lava. This particular volcanic bubble is over 300 feet long and 95 feet wide. There’s a concert hall and a lake within. Tiny blind crabs live in the water, but they never, ever complain about the noise. They might be deaf as well then, we don’t know. If you go to Lanzarote perhaps you could visit the lake at Jameos del Agua, and look into it for us.

Puerto del Carmen - Attractions in Lanzarote - The Canary Islands

This is the ideal Lanzarote holiday destination for you if you want a little more action of an evening. It’s only 10 minutes from the airport and attractive enough, without any high rise hotels. Puerto del Carmen is has all the pubs, cafes, restaurants, and nightclubs you can eat.

The flight from the UK to Lanzarote is about 4 hours and 10 minutes. No transfer is going to take too long as the island is less than 40 miles long. The airport handles well over five million passengers a year and is well equipped to do so.
