Canary Islands Hotels -  Tenerife Accommodation

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands.  Its also the most popular with many families and groups visiting at all times of the year.  It has a great range of accommodation to suit every budget.  This ranges from luxury 5 star hotels to budget apartments.  It has many 3-4 family hotels too.  For those just want to relax, we recommend searching for hotels in Costa Adje and Los Cristianos.  For people who want to stay somewhere lively, we recommend Los Cristianos.  There are plenty of other great resorts in Tenerife too.

Hotels in the Canary Islands -  Lanzarote Accommodation

Lanzarote is another popular island with year round sunshine.  It also has a great range of hotels to choose from.  Those seeking quiet family holidays should consider hotels in Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca.  Those seeking budget accommodation close to the main nightlife should consider hotels in Puerto Del Carmen.  Most Lanzarote hotels offer every board basis from all inclusive to self catering.

Canary Islands Hotels -  Gran Canaria Accommodation

Gran Canaria is a large island with incredible natural beauty.  It has many attractions, and a diverse range of hotels to choose from. If you want to stay somewhere in the lively part of the island, then hotels in Playa del Ingles are an excellent.  If you're looking for a quieter family holiday, then hotels in Maspalomas or Puerto Rico may be more suitable.  We have Canary Islands hotels to suit every budget.

Here are just some of the hotels and resorts we sell in Canary Islands :

Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria

There are seven Canary Islands altogether, but the three main tourist destinations of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote attract most of the many millions of tourists visiting this wonderful part of the world each year. Those three islands, even though geographically quite close, are markedly different to each other in terms of their local geography, geology, and what they offer visitors taking a holiday in the canaries.

Cheap Canary Islands Holidays -  Many Great Resorts

They are full of surprises too. For instance, do you think Rio de Janeiro is the carnival capital of the world? Head for Tenerife and think again! Just be in Santa Cruz during the twenty seven days of carnival during February and the celebrations evident practically 24 hours a day in most streets round the port might well change your mind.

If that sounds too hectic for a canaries holiday, try the lovely gardens in Puerto de la Cruz. In the evening you can stroll up and down the Plaza del Charco where there are loads of open air restaurants to choose from. Lago Martianez is series of seawater pools where the architecture, exotic vegetation, and the volcanic coast all intermingle as though an artist’s hand has been at work, which apparently it has.

Puerto de la Cruz has small volcanic beaches, which doesn’t mean you’ll be covered by hot lava, that would make for a poor canaries holiday, it’s just black volcanic sand, and Playa Jardin or Martianez are the places to go to see it for your self.

Holidays in the Canary Islands  – Fantastic Landscape

Gran Canaria has forests, exotic plants and animals, desert features, mountains, volcanic craters, even snow on the higher peaks sometimes! Along with all that there’s the most exciting capital city in the Canary Islands, some fun and unusual little theme parks, and wonderful beaches all round this little island’s fabulous coastline.

If getting away from the rain is something that’s important to you (if you live in Manchester for instance) Lanzarote is a good choice because rain is rare indeed on Lanzarote. It’s lower (the landscape) than the other islands so it misses the humid trade wind (trade wind: typically a steady wind blowing from east to west above or below the equator, relied upon for navigation by sailors of yore for a reliable consistency and strength). The total rainfall on Lanzarote is about 15mm a year, which is less than it might rain in a typical afternoon in, for instance, the totally picked at random city of: Manchester.

Okay, in case you didn’t know, it’s always raining in Manchester. Yes, always. Are you in Manchester? Going out today? You’ll need a brolly. It rained 69.3mm IN ONE DAY in Manchester once (Whitworth Park, 1942) that’s four and a half years worth of Lanzarote rain in one day. Even if it isn’t raining today in Manchester, it will be soon. Get to Lanzarote now and get away from the rain!

Cheap Canary Islands Holidays  – So Many Great Resorts

There are lots of not so typical things to do on a Canaries holiday. It’s not all water parks and night clubs like some Mediterranean resorts! There’s a botanical gardens on Tenerife at Puerto de la Cruz founded in 1788 that rivals Kew Gardens. Trees and plants from every corner of the world keep anyone remotely interested delighted for hours. Loro Park is the place to go to see the largest collection of parrots in the world, and it’s not just parrots, there are dolphins and other animals too.

Playa de las Américas next door to Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje was an early adopter of the ‘attract Northern Europeans here’ battle cry. Great Britain has put its historic stamp on this area by culturally exporting what we do best: fish and chip shops and pubs. If you want to go abroad without going abroad, this is the place for your a cheap all-inclusive canaries holiday. Costa Adeje is almost part of Playa de las Américas, but with posher hotels

There’s a long promenade running along from Playa de las Americas and Costa Adeje. It’s pedestrians only, which is grand. The only traffic you’ll encounter will be the people eager to sell you their wares, whatever they may be. Los Christianos is one of the most popular resorts on all of the Canaries. The harbour has fishing trips, glass bottom boats, and diving excursions. It’s not quite as English as Playa de las Américas and more than a little quieter.

Canary Islands Flights -  Budget Airlines

The Canary Islands are served by several budget airlines such as Easyjet and Ryanair.  Cheap flights can be found at most times of the year, but we strongly recommend booking early to get the best prices.  Flights take around 4 hours from the UK to each of these islands.

Flights to the Canary Islands -  Airport Transfers

Most resorts take between 20 and 45 minutes to get to from their local airport.  We can arrange cheap return coach transfers to your hotel, or you can take your own private taxi when you get there.  We can also arrange low cost car hire.

There is a water park on Tenerife, it’s not all posh hotels and botanical gardens! AquaPark Octopus has loads of slides for most ages and yet more dolphins. There are dolphin shows every day at AquaPark, bloomin’ big ones too, the biggest dolphins shows in Europe!

If those cheeky dolphins aren’t your thing, Tenerife Zoo is not far from Los Cristianos. Known locally as Parque Las Aguilas, it’s a great jungle-like zoo, with lots of exciting animals from white tigers to pygmy hippos. There are loads of birds of prey and there are falconry shows every day, rope bridges and jungle trails for children to tackle, and for those of you who don’t like them, we can assure you there’s not a dolphin in sight.

Las Caletillas is quiet and on the north east coast of Tenerife. It’s less commercialised, has a pebble beach and is close to Candelaria, a lovely small Mediterranean village.

Gran Canaria is, like its neighbouring Canary Islands, handy for the route from Europe to Africa and even the US. But stuck out to the East it’s even more useful for passing ships and fishing boats, hence the fleets of the world meet at the Puerto de la Luz.

There are lots of things to do near to Maspalomas, such as the Aquasur water park, the Holiday World is one of over 10 amusement parks and theme parks on Gran Canaria. It has rides, shooting ranges, and parrot shows (those last two hopefully not related). Palmitos Park is a big ornithological park, aquarium, and butterfly house. And what holiday would be complete without a visit to Sioux City a Wild West theme park or Mundo Aborigen, an unusual Aboriginal theme park. Now there’s something you don’t see every day, unless you work there of course.

Lanzarote looks arid compared to other Islands in the Canaries, many a holidaymaker has had a mild moment of panic when looking out of the window at the almost lunar landscape as they are coming in to land, but the whole of Lanzarote is a Biosphere Reserve as it has so many interesting features, if you know where to look, and there’s lots of exciting evidence of recent volcanic activity.

Cueva de los Verdes is a long chasm that’s part of a much longer ‘lava tube’ left after an eruption 5000 years ago. Although it sounds like something a plumber unblocks your bog with, ‘lava tubes’ are amazingly eerie caves left by liquid lava as it moved on beneath its solidified ‘roof’.

There is a beautiful semi-underground lake in the middle of the Jameos del Agua, another lava tube. Bars and a restaurant have been installed around the lake, there are even gigs there sometimes. Tiny blind crabs live in the water, but they never, ever complain about the noise, which is admirable really. They might be deaf as well though, we don’t know. If you go to Lanzarote on a canaries holiday perhaps you could visit the lake and look into it for us.

The Parque Nacional de Timanfaya is a marvellous example of what six years of feisty volcanic eruption does to a place. Go to the restaurant here Restaurant del Diablo, which our rudimentary Spanish translates to ‘Restaurant of the Devil’. Don’t let that put you off though as it’s not everywhere you can eat food cooked on a barbecue heated directly by a volcano. You can see where they are going with the name can’t you? We’re sure there’s no actual satanic involvement, just heat from the fiery depths.

Costa Teguise has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years and is the place for five star hotels. Watersports is the order of the day in this peaceful and successful resort and there’s a handy golf course should you want to indulge. Playa Blanca is spreading in popularity rapidly. It’s a really lovely place that’s great if you want to wander about enjoying your canaries holiday, being near the sea, and not really doing too much. No one is going to come here just for the night life, Puerto del Carmen is the ideal Lanzarote destination for you if you want a little more action of an evening.

You can fly direct from the UK to Lanzarote, Tenerife, or Gran Canaria in about 4 hours and 20 minutes. The airports are all geared up for international traffic and attract no particular need to warn you about regular delays or lack of facilities. There’s no reason not to visit the Canary Islands!
The people here don’t need much excuse to celebrate so there’s often something going on, but there isn’t much that should affect your travelling plans.

One thing to note is the Canaries Jazz Festival, usually around July, and pretty much always with a better line up than anything we seem to be able to manage in the UK these days. Not only that WOMAD pays a visit here too, around November, for a great free World of Music and Dance festival.
