Hotels in Majorca – 10 million visitors a year

At least ten million holidaymakers head for
Majorca every year. Thankfully not at the same time. Even so, picking hotels in Majorca can be a challenge. There’s so much choice for such a little island. Majorca has something for every taste, from luxury to student style basic. The island’s sprinkled with resorts - seventeen in all - offering everything from water sports to wild night parties, gorgeous beaches to history and culture. If you’ve got your party head on, hotels in Majorca’s Magaluf and Palma Nova resorts are the noisiest and liveliest. If that sounds nasty, go north for a quieter time. Alcudia beach is lovely and The Ses Dalies Alcudia Apartment Complex is a cool 50m or so from the water. A small complex, the Ses Dalies is family run and offers twenty clean, comfy apartments spread over two floors. Nice one.

Majorca Hotels – Es Trenc, the Spanish Maldives?

Es Trenc beach is astonishingly beautiful and rivals anything you’ll find in the uber-expensive Maldives, with blinding white sands and the kind of unfeasibly blue sea you usually only find on touched up postcards. Cala Bona beach is another beauty and there are plenty of excellent Majorca hotels to choose from nearby. Try the Floriana Apartments, Part of Protur Group, a mere 600m from the shore. The Floriana’s one of the bigger hotels in Majorca, a substantial complex of 315 self catering apartments (your challenge: find your way back to your apartment after a big night out), mostly 1 and 2 bedroom, set in its own pretty gardens. Complete with obligatory swimming pools if you’re feeling far too laid back to make it all that way to the beach!

Hotels in Majorca – A chequered and violent history

Majorca is much more than just a pretty face. It has a fascinating history too, and the scenery’s gorgeous. Inland you’ll find wonderfully unspoiled countryside and there are thick, cool pine forests all around Palma. Bellver Castle is an impressive ruin with amazing views over the island, once a prison but now a museum. And there are loads of pretty traditional fishing harbours. The magnificent four star Porto Colom Hotel, Ola El Vistamar, is one of the smartest hotels in Majorca. Right next to the harbour, a short amble from the Cala Marsal beach and the town centre, it offers 144 immaculate rooms on seven floors and comes complete with private sun terraces and gardens. Go on, treat yourself!

Here are just some of the hotels and resorts we sell in Majorca

Majorca Holidays -  Ideal for families

Majorca is the largest island and one of the most popular of all Spanish holiday destinations.  Its most famous for its incredible beaches and lively nightlife, but there’s plenty to do that doesn’t involve any clubs or beaches. There are castles to explore, performing dolphins to marvel at (or pity, as the fancy takes you) and mountains to trek through.  There's many family resorts all across the island, and its a fantastic place to relax.  There's a great range of Majorca hotels, and you can find a great bargain to suit any budget.  Majorca holidays are a great choice for families.

Cheap Holidays to Majorca -  Excellent Nightlife

If it’s nightlife you’re after, there are so many bars and nightclubs to explore in Majorca. BCM is the most famous of these clubs, and it attracts some of the world's best DJ's. There's a huge square of bars next door too, with Baywatch bar being the most popular. It gets very lively around here, but there are some quieter bars in the surrounding areas.  The strip is a short walk from BCM, and its a long strentch of bars offering cheap drinks and funky music. These areas are packed with Brits during all summer months, and they're very popular with hen and stag do's.

Majorca Holidays - Fantastic Beaches

Mallorca is also a popular spelling of course because that’s how it’s spelled in Catalan Spanish. Either way let’s pronounce it correctly please: ‘My Orca’ or maybe ‘Mah Yorka’ or thereabouts. That’s closest to the Latin etymology, which has the name: Maiorica, marked down in history as meaning ‘major island’. You know how we like you to talk proper-like at Beat the Brochure. Oh yes, Catalan is one of the ‘Romance languages’, still spoken by about 12 million people and descended from Latin. Back in the sun on Majorca little of this is important of course, as long as you can order a beer (‘una cerveza por favor’) and ask where the lavvy is (‘donde ser servicio’) you’re laughing. Bob’s your uncle.

Flights to MajorcaMallorca? Majorca? Mallorca?

Majorca / Mallorca? We can’t figure out why this lovely island has two names. We’ve just tossed a coin and we’re going to call it Majorca today. Whatever name you prefer, Majorca has a bloody and turbulent history starting way back in Paleolithic times, 6000 to 8000 years ago. So flights to Majorca aren’t all about lying on the sand smothered in factor nine million. There’s a substantial amount of history and pre-history to rummage around as well. The capital, Palma, is a direct contrast; cosmopolitan, modern, state of the art… although the ancient bones beneath poke through here and there. Want flights to Majorca? Choose from loads… this is an enduringly popular holiday destination. You’ll fly into Palma Airport, just five miles from Palma centre and Spain’s third busiest airport.

Majorca Flights – Spain’s third busiest airport

Majorca is Spain's biggest island, in the warm blue Med and a member of the Balearics island group; add Ibiza, Formentera and Minorca and you’ve collected the full set. Palma is in the south west corner of the island and flights to Majorca’s Palma airport place you in a convenient position for reaching the island’s many resorts. A whole raft of regional and major UK airports offer Majorca flights; 26 and counting including Aberdeen, Belfast, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Heathrow, Nottingham, Glasgow, Coventry and Leeds.

Flights to Majorca – 33C in summer, lovely in winter

What’s mild in winter, warm in spring and autumn and up to 33C in summer? Majorca is. Hide from the heat in the island’s famous stalagmite-packed caves, dip inside an architectural masterpiece or shelter in the shade of a prehistoric monuments. Choose flights to Majorca and tread in the footsteps of Chopin and George Sands, try your hand at the Spanish Catalan dialect or join more than ten million tourists a year on the beach - thankfully not all at once. Palma Airport, home of all Majorca flights, handled more than 23 million passengers spread across just under 198,000 flights in 2007… we are almost speechless at the thought. Almost.

Cuevas del Drach – Majorca Attractions

There are a few caves to visit on holiday in Majorca, but the most popular is this particular network, with its smashing underground lake. There are loads of dangly bits of rock, some totally white and very fragile looking. The chamber of the lake in the middle seats 1000 for concerts, which are put on daily.

Now, we might well have caves of our own in the UK, but they aren’t the same. The Caves of Drach are uniquely beautiful and unequalled in most of the world. The Chislehurst caves (near Bromley, Sarf East Larnden) have hosted concerts by Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles in the past, but they’ve gone a bit down the tubes since then, so to speak. The beauty and wonder of the Caves of Drach endures still. You aren’t going to go on holiday in Majorca and not visit them are you? Surely not!

Marineland – Attractions Tickets Majorca

Go to Marineland Majorca for the largest collection of sharks in Europe, with performing dolphins, exotic birds, aquarium, crocodiles and a repxile zoo thrown into the bargain that contains, unfortunately, some extremely large snakes. Perhaps if they got the exterminators in and got rid of some of those snakes they’d get a few more visitors. Either way, it’s a respected marine research centre and looks after its dolphins well. The dolphins here have been successfully bred, which is unusual, and they rarely complain about the conditions or treatment so the keepers here must be doing something right.

Placa Major – Majorca – Majorca Holiday

This is a big pedestrian square with an abundance of shops and restaurants and a good starting point for a day spent wandering around and taking in the atmosphere on a Majorca holiday. Head up to Placa Olivar to move away from the more touristy crafts, and pick a tapas bar to while away a few authentically Spanish hours in.

Majorca Harbour – Majorca Attractions

Palma harbour is full of yachts and fishing related activity. You can hop on a ferry to any of the other islands or the Spanish mainland from here too. Come here in the day for some great fresh fish at one of the restaurants, or it’s the place to spend your evenings, just enjoying being in trendy bars near the harbour; which after all is what being on holiday is all about!

It’s a two and a half hour flight from the UK and transfers vary from 20 minutes if you’re staying practically locally in Palma, to up to a few hours should you be in the far corners of the island.
