Hotels in Abu Dhabi – Beaches, oases and vibrant city life

Translated literally, Abu Dhabi means ‘Father of Gazelle’. A charming name for a smart, cosmopolitan place. Gorgeous hot, dry weather, peaceful beaches, green oases and a lively city culture are all brought within easy reach and hotels in Abu Dhabi are modern, smart and clean. The Khalidita Sheraton, part of the world famous chain, sits conveniently close to the main shopping and business districts, and it’s convenient for some great local tourist attractions. This luxurious 240 room Abu Dhabi hotel features a cool café in the lobby - the Downtown Café - a health club, fabulous state of the art conference facilities and a really funky rooftop pool. Even I couldn’t ask for more. And that’s saying something.

Abu Dhabi Hotels – Multi cultural and cosmopolitan

Abu Dhabi hotels tend towards new, shiny and sleek. Far from being soulless, Abu Dhabi is packed with interestingly grubby back alleys, local markets and traditional architecture. Compared to Dubai, this is a laid back place with much more traditional Arab flavour. The four star One to One Hotel the Village is a resort hotel 3km from the shopping Mall. Just the ticket if you’re after excellent accommodation, clean and smart, just 4km from the famously posh Equestrian Club.

Hotels in Abu Dhabi – Nature, museums, history and shopping

If you’re in the market for a great day out, choose hotels in Abu Dhabi that give you easy access to the wonders of Khalifa Park. This fabulous park has something to appeal to everyone; landscaped avenues and meeting plazas, a lovely mosque, a monorail and a maritime museum, a brilliant time tunnel ride, space for parties… plus inspirational shopping! Some hotels in Abu Dhabi offer apartment accommodation. Try the Vision Hotel Apartments, 126 suites on 21 floors, suitable for long or short stays. Every apartment has telephone, fax and modem lines, high speed internet, satellite TV… enough gadgets to keep you fiddling happily for hours.

Abu Dhabi  Holidays -  A Lovely Modern City

Abu Dhabi holidays offer the visitor an interesting juxtapostion of the old and new Arabian Gulf holiday. A relatively new city, certainly in middle eastern terms, Abu Dhabi has only been in habited for about 250 years although parts of it can certainly be traced back to BC times.  Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates, but was a fishing village until oil was discovered just over 40 years ago. Now Abu Dhabi is a beautiful modern garden city, with tree-lined boulevards, parks and fountains. A bit like Welywn then, except without a John Lewis.

Abu Dhabi Holidays -  Plenty of History

Parts of old Abu Dhabi still exist around the Dhow wharf and fish market areas in the north-east of the city. However, it’s the future that Abu Dhabi has its eye on. For instance, Saadiyat Island is being built with a ‘launch’ date in excess of 2011. It’s going to be home to the largest Guggenheim Museum in the world, luxury hotels, marinas, and everything you would expect of a great, modern UAE city. Abu Dhabi is rightly proud of its greenness and has planted over 120 million trees to date.

Cheap Holidays in Abu Dhabi -  Many Attractions

Although it doesn't receive as many visitors as Dubai holidays, Abu Dhabi has transformed itself into a great modern city thats suitable for tourists.  Great attractions include the Corniche Beach, the Old Souk Market, Sheik Zayhed's Palace and Breakwater Island.  It has a great business district too, with many spectacular buildings.  Abu Dhabi holidays offer something for everyone.

Flights to Abu Dhabi – Capital of the UAE

Abu Dhabi has been the capital of the United Arab Emirates since becoming independent in the early ‘70s. Take flights to Abu Dhabi and land in the largest of the seven emirates; Ajman, Sharjah, Dubai, Umm al Qaiwain, Fujairah and Ras al Khaimah. Flights to Abu Dhabi have a long history going right back to the earliest days of aviation in the late 1920s when the RAF used the safe, calm waters as a base for their experimental flying boats. These days, people flock there to lie on the sand and bob about in the warm – actually hot – sea. Today’s flights to Abu Dhabi deposit you in the Emirates’ original airport established in 1982. Nineteen miles from the city centre, the airport was designed to handle three and a half million people a year. Not enough… they’re spending several billion pounds as we write updating the airport to handle a whopping 20 million passengers by 2010.

Abu Dhabi Flights – Expanded airport will handle 20 million people

Once Abu Dhabi airport’s the new Midfield Terminal Complex is finished, the airport will become one of the world’s biggest. But flights to Abu Dhabi aren’t all about big and brash and an excess of bling. Amongst all the riches and extravagance, a strong craft and art scene is growing. The most popular craft in Abu Dhabi is Sado, weaving. If, for you, flights to Abu Dhabi go hand in hand with the ancient and venerable Arab culture, hand woven goods are affordable and often exquisitely beautiful.

Flights to Abu Dhabi – Buy lovely hand woven stuff

You’ll find flights to Abu Dhabi with a raft of trusted airlines from all over the world – this place is just as important for business travellers as it is for holidaymakers. Try Air France, Britannia Airways, BA, Egypt Air, Lufthansa, Qatar Airlines, Royal Jordanian and China Airlines to name just a few. Flights to Abu Dhabi didn’t always deposit you amongst some of the richest folk on the planet. It used to be the poorest sheikhdom of the bunch until they struck oil, clever people. Now Abu Dhabi revels in 70% of the UAE's total wealth. Nice one.

It’s about eight hours flight from the UK to Abu Dhabi International Airport, which is about 35 minutes drive from the city centre. It’s a modern airport more than equipped well enough to deal with the constant human traffic going in and out of Abu Dhabi, the largest of the seven Emirates (you know the ones, the seven that go to make up the United Arab Emirates).
